Kim Dae-ho jokes about expensive celebrity styling during YouTube video
Broadcaster Kim Dae-ho shared his candid reaction to the time and expense of professional celebrity styling while preparing for a special fundraising broadcast at MBC.
Broadcaster Kim Dae-ho noted the high cost and time required for celebrity makeup in a recent YouTube video released October 30. The video shows Kim preparing for a special MBC fundraising broadcast following his decision to terminate an exclusive contract with One Hundred Label over unpaid settlement issues.
Broadcaster Kim Dae-ho provided a moment of laughter with his realistic reactions while receiving celebrity-style grooming for the first time in a while. He noted that while his hair and makeup were completed in just 25 minutes during his time as an announcer, celebrity makeup involves significant time and expense. His recent activities have drawn attention, particularly following his decision to terminate his exclusive contract with his former agency due to unpaid settlement issues.
On October 30, a video titled "The Son of MBC Returning Home After a Long Time" was released on Kim Dae-ho's YouTube channel, "Hey Kim Dae-ho." In the video, Kim visited a hair salon to receive styling ahead of a broadcast appearance that differs from his usual routine.
Explaining his schedule, Kim said, "Today, MBC is doing a special broadcast for the end of the year. I have become the MC for a special fundraising broadcast," adding, "Counting the years, I think I have done this for four years." Even after leaving MBC, he returned to the station, which he described as being like his original home, to host the special broadcast.
Kim's candid remarks surfaced during the process of investing time into his hair and makeup. Comparing his current situation to his past, he said, "When I was in the announcer bureau, 25 minutes was enough, including hair." He then remarked, "Celebrity makeup is not like that. It's expensive. It's money," drawing laughter. His reaction seemed to reflect his realization that professional styling requires substantial time and cost, unlike his days as an announcer when broadcast preparations were completed in a short window.
After leaving MBC in February last year, Kim signed an exclusive contract with One Hundred Label, a subsidiary of One Hundred led by Piark Chairman Cha Ga-won. At the time, interest in his new start as a freelance broadcaster intensified as it was reported that he received a contract fee in the hundreds of millions of won.
However, One Hundred and its subsidiary Big Planet Made Entertainment, among others, subsequently became embroiled in controversy regarding unpaid settlements. Kim also claimed he had not received his settlements and notified his former agency of his intention to terminate his exclusive contract. His career, which began with a high-profile contract, has faced conflict due to these settlement issues.
In this video, Kim showed a significantly different preparation process ahead of hosting the special fundraising broadcast. In particular, his honest reaction regarding the cost of celebrity makeup provided a glimpse into his daily life as he transitions from an announcer to a freelance broadcaster.
