Kim Se-in: "Outdoor filming in a miniskirt in the middle of a freezing winter dawn"
Actress Kim Se-in revealed the painful reasons why she had to leave the entertainment industry and move abroad, citing harsh filming conditions, conflicts with her agency, and her mother's health issues.
Actress Kim Se-in has revealed the story of why she had no choice but to leave for overseas, opening up about the pain she experienced during her activities in the entertainment industry. The memory of having to film on snow-covered roads until dawn wearing only a short miniskirt and stockings remains a painful experience to the point where she does not even want to think of winter now. As conflicts with her agency coincided with her mother's health issues, even her livelihood became uncertain, and she eventually chose to head to Malaysia, leaving behind her familiar life in the entertainment industry.
Recently, a video titled "The reason a successful actress lives doing Coupang deliveries" was released on the YouTube channel 'Into Everyday Life'. Appearing in the video, Kim Se-in spoke honestly about the process from her time as an actress to her departure abroad. There were circumstances beyond a simple career change behind why an actress who was once known to the public chose to leave the entertainment industry and select a completely different life.
Kim Se-in revealed that her mother collapsed during the period she was experiencing tyranny from her agency. She recalled those times, saying, "I was living on the money I had previously earned, but my face was known and there was no way to make a living." Being known in the entertainment industry does not guarantee a stable income or new jobs. She explained that as her foundation for activities was shaken due to conflicts with her agency and family health issues overlapped, it was difficult to continue her life with only the career she had built up until then.
What she cited as the most painful memory in her entertainment life was the cold experienced at the filming site. Kim Se-in said, "I thought I should find happiness, that I should leave," and added, "What was the most painful thing while living as an actress was being made to wear a short miniskirt and one pair of stockings and filming until dawn. On a snow-covered road." She continued, "Then you keep getting hit by the wind. I grew sick of winter."
While the actress's appearance on screen may look glamorous, the conditions that must be endured on set to complete those scenes are difficult for the public to easily know. In particular, filming for long periods while wearing costumes that do not match the season and weather can be a significant burden to an actress. Kim Se-in's confession makes one reflect on the physical pain the actress had to endure behind short scenes in works. Of course, the specific filming environment and the overall production process at the time were not disclosed, but it is clear that the person involved cited that time as her most painful memory.
Ultimately, Kim Se-in decided to leave Korea to find a place where she could feel happiness. The destination she chose was Malaysia, which has a warm climate. Kim Se-in explained, "I wanted to go to a warm country, so I left for Malaysia and worked hard as a guide." Rather than clinging only to the profession of an actress, she sought to make a living and find other possibilities in a new environment. Stepping away from a familiar stage could not have been easy, but at the time, it seems she needed a choice to change the direction of her life.
However, her new life also faced unexpected variables. While continuing her new life working as a guide in Malaysia, the COVID-19 pandemic occurred, and Kim Se-in eventually returned to Korea. Although her settlement abroad could not continue, it was at least a time for her to seek the possibility of living in a different way by escaping her previous life in the entertainment industry. The process of putting down the label of a celebrity would have also required another adaptation and challenge.
Kim Se-in's story shows the gap that exists between the glamorous image of the entertainment industry and the unstable reality behind it. Even for an actress whose face is known to the public, if her dependence on works and agencies is high and her activities are suspended, livelihood issues can become a reality. When the responsibility to care for family is added to this, maintaining a career itself becomes a difficult task. This means that being evaluated as successful in the entertainment industry does not necessarily coincide with whether an individual can enjoy a stable life.
Above all, what draws attention in Kim Se-in's choice is that she did not consider merely enduring difficult situations to be the only answer. Instead of staying in the entertainment industry and waiting for past opportunities, she left for a place where she could find happiness and started a new job. Although she had to return to Korea as her life in Malaysia was interrupted by COVID-19, the process shows how many different choices an actress had to consider for survival. This confession, in which Kim Se-in revealed her past pain, serves as a reminder that rather than judging the life of a celebrity solely by its glamour, it is necessary to look into the reality of the labor and livelihood they had to endure behind the stage.
