Polygraph test identifies Kang Ji-seon as liar in MBC drama 'Liar'
In the second episode of the MBC drama 'Liar', Kang Ji-seon's claims of sexual assault are challenged by a polygraph test and allegations of her being a habitual perpetrator seeking settlement money.
In the second episode of the MBC drama 'Liar' aired October 31, a polygraph test indicated that Kang Ji-seon provided deceptive statements regarding her sexual assault allegations against Min Jun-ho. While Min Jun-ho was previously released without being sent to prosecution, a lawyer has since alleged that Kang has a history of accusing men of harassment to extort settlement money.

A shocking development has unfolded in the MBC Friday-Saturday drama 'Liar', where Kang Ji-seon (Seo Hyun-jin) claimed to be a victim of sexual assault, only for a polygraph test to reveal a deceptive reaction. The case has entered a new phase following allegations that she has previously accused men of sexual harassment to extort settlement money.
In the second episode of 'Liar' aired on October 31, the sexual assault allegations made by Kang Ji-seon clashed with the total denial of Min Jun-ho (Yoo Yeon-seok). As physical evidence remains elusive and the testimonies of the two individuals move in opposite directions, viewers are left questioning who is concealing the truth.
Min Jun-ho, who was urgently arrested on suspicion of sexual assault, pleaded his innocence during the police investigation. He claimed that while they were having a conversation and drinking wine while sitting on a sofa, Kang Ji-seon led him to the room, and the kissing followed naturally. He added that Kang Ji-seon never pushed him or expressed any refusal. "If I had known Kang Ji-seon disliked it, I would never have crossed the line," he argued, questioning the reason for her sudden allegation of sexual assault.
The initial stage of the investigation appeared to favor Min Jun-ho. Kang Ji-seon's blood test showed no unusual findings other than alcohol, and neither party showed signs of physical trauma. CCTV footage and witness statements also indicated that the two were together without any significant conflict during their date. Although Kang Ji-seon claimed she was unable to move due to shock and lost her memory at a certain point, no objective evidence was secured to support this. Consequently, Min Jun-ho was released without being sent to prosecution.
However, Kang Ji-seon did not back down easily. Her suspicions grew when she discovered that the wine glass, which had been on the sofa table at the time of the incident, had been cleared away by Min Jun-ho. She raised the possibility that Min Jun-ho may have drugged the wine and began researching the characteristics of GHB, commonly known as "date rape drug." Noting that drugs can become difficult to detect in the body after a certain amount of time has passed, Kang Ji-seon became convinced that the reason she could not resist strongly and lost her memory overnight was due to drugging.
“I clearly left the wine glass on the sofa table, but it was moved to the drying rack because it was washed. Otherwise, why would the glass be washed?” Kang Ji-seon questioned. She further speculated that the drugging and destruction of evidence might have been a premeditated crime. However, these remained only her suspicions. No test results or physical evidence proving the administration of drugs were found, and with Min Jun-ho's non-indictment, the case appeared to have reached a dead end.
The attitude of the police during the investigation further isolated Kang Ji-seon. Jang Du-il (Jung Seung-kil), a lieutenant in the Women and Juvenile Division, mentioned that Min Jun-ho is a doctor and suggested the possibility that the case was aimed at obtaining a settlement. Rather than addressing the practical issue that a man with money and social prestige holds a relatively advantageous position, the focus was placed on doubting Kang Ji-seon's claims of victimization. It was not easy for Kang Ji-seon to change the police's judgment even as she pleaded her innocence.
At this point, Lee Hwa-yeong (Ok Ja-yeon), an inspector in the Women and Juvenile Division, approached Kang Ji-seon. Lee believed that one of the two was lying, and that it might not be a simple false statement but a form where truth and lies are skillfully mixed. To uncover the reality of the case, Lee proposed a polygraph test, to which Min Jun-ho also agreed, asserting that he was not lying.
During the testing process, Kang Ji-seon confessed her past, truthfully stating that she had experienced sexual harassment from neighborhood older boys while her sister was away on a school trip during middle school. However, the results were unexpected. Lee Hwa-yeong reported that Min Jun-ho's statements were all judged to be true based on the analysis. Conversely, a deceptive reaction was confirmed in Kang Ji-seon's statements. Lee Hwa-yeong directly pointed to Kang Ji-seon, stating, "You are the one who lied between the two of you."
The shock did not end there. Choi Chan-su (Jang In-sub), a lawyer and friend of Min Jun-ho, stepped forward to offer his defense. Choi claimed that Kang Ji-seon had caused similar incidents at school even before accusing Min Jun-ho. He alleged that she had previously framed men as sexual harassers to make their social lives difficult, then pursued the matter to the end to receive settlement money. He warned Min Jun-ho that if he did not respond aggressively against Kang Ji-seon, he himself might suffer.
Choi went as far as to label Kang Ji-seon a "habitual offender playing the victim to aim for money." However, this is merely the claim of Choi Chan-su, Min Jun-ho's friend and lawyer; the actual circumstances under which Kang Ji-seon's past case was concluded have not yet been confirmed. Furthermore, the polygraph results are presented as a narrative device within the drama, and in reality, such test results cannot be used to finalize criminal facts or the truth of a statement.
'Liar' has shaken the judgment of viewers by introducing variables such as polygraph results and past settlement history into the familiar conflict between a woman claiming victimization and a man denying the charges. It remains undetermined whether Kang Ji-seon is the actual victim or if she is making false claims targeting Min Jun-ho. Attention is focused on the upcoming developments to see what actually happened within the memories of the two, where truth and lies are intertwined, and whether there is another story hidden in Kang Ji-seon's past.
