Designer Park Si-young, who created posters for major works such as the film 'The King's Warden' and 'The Wailing', has suddenly declared a suspension of his public activities. Having drawn attention by revealing his 15-year love for a same-sex partner, he has decided to temporarily stop appearing on YouTube and in interviews. His confession that it has become difficult to live his life freely as public interest grows poses a question about how far the interest surrounding a celebrity's coming out should extend toward respect.

On the 14th, Park Si-young posted a long message on his SNS, stating, "I have decided to stop YouTube and interviews for the time being." His position is that while he will finish already promised schedules, he will not respond to new requests for appearances or interviews. Having established his position in the film industry by working on posters for hit films and receiving public attention for his personal love story, he has decided to reduce the scope of his exposure.

The reason he cited for suspending his activities was not malicious comments or criticism. Park Si-young stated that the value of life he considers most important is freedom, confessing, "I am losing this." He explained that stories he used to share comfortably in daily life suddenly felt like tasks of having to explain and report his thoughts and life to the public. It appears he found it difficult to endure the situation where stories he disclosed by his own will drew more interest, and that interest returned to him as a burden to explain himself.

In particular, what tormented him more than malicious comments were messages requesting desperate help. Park Si-young revealed that he received contacts containing messages such as "I want to commit suicide," "I am in hell right now," "Please save me," and "Please give me advice." He confessed, "I can ignore malicious comments, but I cannot do that with specific suffering," adding, "If I ignore them, my humanity is hurt, but if I listen, I suffer from vulnerability." This part reveals that he is experiencing deep conflict between the desire not to turn away from others' pain and the reality that he cannot handle everyone's difficulties.

Park Si-young also linked this situation to the sense of responsibility felt as a successful minority. He expressed it as, "A sense of mission erodes intellect and shackles freedom." While the fact that his experience can provide courage and comfort to someone is meaningful, if that meaning turns into an obligation to necessarily help and explain to someone at some point, an individual's life bears another weight. His confession is significant in that society cannot demand a person to constantly disclose their experiences and shoulder the responsibility of embracing others' pain simply because the society needs the voices of minorities.

Park Si-young is a film poster designer who made a name for himself through the poster design work for the film 'The City of Violence' in 2006 and has participated in various works such as 'Mother', 'The Housemaid', 'The Face Reader', 'The Wailing', and 'I, the Executioner'. Recently, he drew attention again by participating in the poster work for the hit film 'The King's Warden'. Poster design, which compresses the narrative and atmosphere of a film into a single image, is an important task that determines the moment an audience first encounters a work. He has built his own design territory through works that require genre-specific personality and intense impressions.

This year, by revealing his love for his long-time partner, he received public attention for reasons different from his professional achievements. Park Si-young expressed his affection toward his partner of 15 years on SNS, saying, "This feeling has been boiling for all 15 years. I feel like I'm going crazy because I like them so much." He also stated that the best thing he possesses is his partner. He also expressed regret regarding the reality that he could not publicly boast about his long-lasting love. After the post became a hot topic, he deleted the post and experienced a situation where the coming out itself became the main topic, contrary to his intention.

In the WATCHA YouTube content 'Meeting for the First Time' released last May, he also did not hide his feelings for his partner. Park Si-young said, "I was also flustered that a coming out article came out when I was forty, but no matter how much I think about it, the only thing I can boast about right now is my lover," and "I want to carry my lover on my back and walk in the middle of Myeong-dong to boast that they are my person." At the same time, he clearly drew a line against his sexual identity becoming the standard for explaining his professional ability. He emphasized, "The reason I am good at design is because I work hard. It's not because I'm gay." This means that proudly revealing love and being defined as a symbol of a specific identity are separate issues.

Park Si-young's decision this time is read not as a rejection of public interest following his coming out, but as a choice to reclaim the right to decide for himself how much of his life to disclose. While sharing the experiences of a minority can reduce social prejudice and give courage to others, it does not mean that all individuals must continue those experiences as public activities. Just because one has disclosed their love does not mean they have an obligation to continuously carry representativeness or handle the pain of others. Public interest can be a channel to understand an individual's life, but sometimes it can turn into pressure to constantly explain and prove oneself to that person.

Park Si-young plans not to accept new YouTube appearances or interview requests after finishing his already promised schedules. Apart from his work as a film poster designer, it means he will temporarily step back from the role of explaining his life in front of the public. After announcing his long love to the world and honestly revealing the weight of the interest directed toward him, what he has chosen is not a louder voice, but the freedom to stop speaking for a while. His declaration is reminding us once again that the right not to disclose is just as much to be respected as the right to disclose one's life.
