Son Tae-young reveals 6 years of solo housework and childcare in United States, recalls happiest time with Kwon Sang-woo

Actress Son Tae-young has revealed her daily life in the United States, where she has been responsible for all household chores while raising two children for six years. Behind her glamorous life as an actress lies the practical hardship of personally managing cleaning, laundry, and meal preparation, as well as handling her children's school commutes. Now 47 years old, Son Tae-young shared her personal rule that she must rest during the weekends.

In a video released on the 25th through her YouTube channel "Mrs. New Jersey Son Tae-young," Son demonstrated a tteokbokki recipe provided by her husband, Kwon Sang-woo. After making the tteokbokki, she enjoyed a simple meal by frying rice in the remaining sauce and proceeded to do the dishes immediately after finishing. Her seamless transition from cooking to cleaning revealed the reality of her daily life in the United States.

Son, who prepares meals for her family on weekdays, stated that she uses delivery services on weekends. Her principle is clear: "On the weekend, you order whatever you want to eat. A mother needs to rest on the weekend," she said. This signifies her intention to let go of the burden of meal preparation on weekends, as she moves around all week for her family.

When asked if she has ever hired a housekeeper in the United States, she replied, "Never once." Son explained that she has personally handled cleaning, laundry, cooking, and the transportation of her two children to and from school for the past six years. This highlights that her daily life, which requires managing both housework and childcare simultaneously, is by no means light.

Mentioning her age, Son also spoke candidly about the physical burden. "I am 47 now, and I have to rest on Saturday and Sunday so that I can take care of the kids again starting Monday. Otherwise, it is too hard and I cannot do it," she said. Her weekend rest is not merely a choice for comfort, but a necessary time to continue childcare and housework in the following week.

However, this does not mean her husband, Kwon Sang-woo, is completely hands-off regarding housework. "My husband does well if I tell him to do it," Son said, recalling a time about two years ago when they visited South Korea. At that time, as Kwon Sang-woo had no filming schedule, the couple spent time alone, and he reportedly took charge of meal preparation and dishwashing.

Recalling those moments, Son revealed, "I truly rested deeply. I think that was the happiest period in the last six years. I still tell my husband how good that was." This confession shows how special the time spent sharing household chores with her husband was to her, having handled all the housework and childcare in the United States. It also suggests that ordinary daily life shared with a spouse can be the greatest form of rest.

Regarding dishwashing, however, Son noted that she feels more at ease doing it herself. She also explained why she does not use the dishwasher in her home frequently. "There isn't enough volume to run the dishwasher. But I can't let them pile up either," she said, explaining that her personality, which prevents her from delaying dishes, leads her to handle them herself.

Son's confession shows that her daily life raising two children abroad is not filled only with leisurely or romantic moments. Through her habit of solving meals with delivery food on weekends and cherishing the short time spent with her husband as a long-lasting happy memory, the meaning of the rest she seeks is revealed. Rather than the glamorous life of a star, the practical hardships of a person who has no time to rest while caring for her family are drawing empathy.
