Uhm Jeong-hwa breaks 54kg weight plateau with one meal a day

Singer and actress Uhm Jeong-hwa shares how she overcame a weight plateau and shifted her perspective on body image through lifestyle changes.

Singer and actress Uhm Jeong-hwa has revealed the changes she has experienced during her long-term weight management process. She stated that while it was difficult to drop below 54kg regardless of how much she dieted in the past, she has been maintaining 52kg since last year after changing her eating habits. More eye-catching than the simple weight loss is the fact that her attitude toward her body and appearance has also changed.

Uhm Jung-hwa Breaks Through the 54kg Barrier with One Meal a Day

On the 28th, Uhm introduced her usual self-care methods, including exercise and diet, through her YouTube channel 'Umaizing Uhm Jeong-hwa TV'.

Revealing that her weight used to be around 56kg, she confessed, "Even when I dieted, I stayed around 55kg, and no matter how much I lost, I couldn't get below 54kg." She explained that she had experienced a so-called 'weight plateau' where her weight stopped changing for a long period.

She began attempting a change last year. "I made up my mind and started eating one meal a day last year," Uhm said. "I reduced carbohydrates and sugar and eliminated late-night snacks. Because of that, I am now 52kg."

It wasn't just reducing the frequency of meals that caused the weight change. Uhm explained that she combines dietary control with consistent exercise. Although her schedule has become busier recently, she basically tries to exercise every other day and continues to do Pilates and weight training.

She also cited the time spent walking with her dog, Super, as part of her daily exercise. Rather than focusing on intensive weight loss during specific periods, she is placing emphasis on making eating habits and physical activity a part of her lifestyle.

The reason weight management is important to Uhm is not simply to reduce the numbers. As an actress and singer who has stood on stages and in front of cameras for a long time, it is directly linked to her physical condition and confidence.

"Even when I stand on stage, I always have confidence because I exercise," she said. "The current me is just right."

In particular, the story revealed this day is meaningful because Uhm's perspective on her own appearance has changed from the past.

Uhm confessed that in the past, she wanted to possess external qualities that she lacked. It seems there were times during her career as a celebrity when she had no choice but to constantly compare her appearance to the standards of others.

The catalyst for this change in thought was a photograph of her father, who passed away during her childhood. She explained that one day, while looking at her father's photo, she discovered that her leg shape was identical to his, leading her to view her physical characteristics in a new light.

Instead of accepting her innate body as a deficiency, she came to accept it as a unique characteristic inherited from her family. Uhm explained that she subsequently began to look at her strengths rather than searching for what she lacked.

This is also an important point in understanding the current Uhm, who has stood before the public for over 30 years. After her debut as a singer in 1993, she left behind numerous hit songs such as 'Rose of Betrayal', 'Poison', 'Invitation', and 'Don't Know', and established her own unique domain as an actress through various works such as 'Marriage is Crazy', 'Princess Aurora', 'Haeundae', and 'Dancing Queen'.

In particular, Uhm is a figure who has maintained her presence even amidst the constantly changing images required of female stars depending on the era. She expanded her territory with intense performances and fashion on stage, and with acting skills that span various genres on the screen.

As much as she was in a position where it was difficult to be free from social gazes regarding appearance and physique, the attitude she has shown recently is different from self-management that only aims to 'become younger and thinner.'

More important than the number 52kg is her statement, "The current me is just right." While talking about weight loss, the ultimate conclusion she reached was not to view herself as an object that must be constantly corrected, but to accept her current self.

Of course, the one meal a day and the weight change revealed by Uhm do not guarantee the same results for everyone. This is because the effects of meal frequency or specific diets can vary depending on an individual's health status and lifestyle patterns. Therefore, rather than accepting her management method as a general weight loss formula, it is appropriate to view it as a process of an individual finding a management method that fits their own lifestyle.

Ultimately, what Uhm revealed is closer to the fact that her way of looking at her body has changed over a long time rather than the weight of 52kg itself. While she used to obsess over numbers that wouldn't go down in the past, she now focuses on accepting her physical characteristics and her current self, while maintaining the stamina and confidence to stand on stage.

Even now, more than 30 years after her debut, self-care for Uhm is less about a competition to hold onto youth and more about self-care to sustain the life and stage she desires.
