SinB, Eunha, and Umji: "Does the name Viviz matter? We are tightly knit"
Viviz members SinB, Eunha, and Umji have signed with a new agency, Uncore, and expressed their determination to stay together regardless of whether they continue to use the name Viviz.
The members of the group Viviz—SinB, Eunha, and Umji—have stood at a new starting line. Although their agency has changed and even their familiar team name has become uncertain, the relationship between the three has instead become even clearer. SinB's single remark, "Let's be together for a long, long time under whatever name," fully contains the determination not to easily break the companionship the three have shared for over 10 years.
On the 5th, SinB released a photo on her SNS. It showed her tightly hugging Eunha and Umji inside an elevator. The three revealed their unchanging intimacy by making large hearts with their arms or striking playful poses. Rather than the polished idol image shown on stage, it was closer to the natural appearance of friends who have spent a long time together.
The caption SinB left along with the photo was even more meaningful: "Let's be together for a long, long time under whatever name." Although it is a short sentence, considering the current situation the three are in, it is difficult to view it as a simple expression of friendship. In a situation where the name of the team they will promote under has not yet been finalized, SinB has essentially delivered a message to fans that even if the name changes, the fact that the three will be together will not change.
In fact, SinB, Eunha, and Umji announced on this day that they have signed exclusive contracts with their new agency, Uncore. Uncore expressed its intention to provide support in various ways so that the three can continue to promote actively as a team. The issue is the name 'Viviz', which is already familiar to fans. The new agency explained that they have been conducting negotiations with the former agency regarding the use of the team name, but have not yet reached a final agreement due to differences in opinion regarding the proposed conditions.
Ultimately, the three have opened up the possibility of using a new team name for a quick resumption of activities. For an idol group, a team name carries a meaning beyond a simple designation. This is because albums released over the years, stages, fandom memories, and the members' images are all accumulated under one name. In particular, since Viviz held great symbolism as a new start for the three members following GFriend, the uncertainty surrounding the team name goes beyond simple trademark or contractual issues and touches upon the identity of the three members' activities.
This situation is not the first for the three. SinB, Eunha, and Umji debuted as GFriend in 2015 and worked as one team for a long time, and in 2022, after GFriend's activities ended, they gathered again to walk a new path under the name Viviz. As they have already experienced a team disbandment and restart once, the message that "we can be together even if the name changes" feels even more special this time.
Viviz established a new color for the three members through songs like 'BOP BOP!' and 'MANIAC', positioning themselves as a different team from GFriend. This was the result of developing their own experiences and relationships as a new identity rather than relying on the former group's halo. In that sense, the current team name controversy may paradoxically serve as an opportunity to show what their teamwork is maintained by.
In the idol industry, the team name and agency are important foundations for activities, but the relationship of members who have been together for a long time cannot be defined by a single contract. In the journey of the three, which could continue from GFriend to Viviz and then to a new name, the most important thing might ultimately be the will to stand on stage together, rather than the name itself. This is why SinB's words, "Let's be together for a long, long time under whatever name," feel particularly touching to fans.
