Original Musical 'Marigold' Opens Biyu Art Hall — Hope After Wounds
Theater company Biyu presents original musical 'Marigold' at newly opened Biyu Art Hall, a healing story of hope told through five interwoven episodes.
The story of people rediscovering hope after passing through deep wounds and anxiety in life is set to unfold on the Daehangno stage. Theater company Biyu is presenting the original musical 'Marigold' to celebrate the grand opening of Biyu Art Hall, which has newly opened its doors.

Theater company Biyu announced that it will perform the original musical 'Marigold' at Biyu Art Hall in Daehangno from May 7 to 17. This work is the inaugural commemorative production presented since the company established its own performance venue, embodying the creative philosophy and future direction the company has long pursued.
'Marigold' depicts the process by which characters pushed to the edge of life gradually recover by confronting each other's wounds in a shared space. Five episodes unfold in an omnibus format, addressing realistic issues such as loneliness, loss, and pain in modern society. Although it deals with weighty themes, the work has been crafted through music, movement, and restrained humor so that audiences can empathize more comfortably.
The work has also drawn attention as content that conveys a social message beyond a simple performance. Last year, it was selected for the Korea Foundation for Suicide Prevention's public-private partnership suicide prevention program, attracting interest as a performance imbued with the value of respect for life. This year, it was named among the Gyeonggi Arts Center's Outstanding Repertoire Re-screening selections, earning recognition for both artistic merit and popular appeal simultaneously.
The title 'Marigold' originates from the flower's meaning — "happiness that is sure to come." Throughout the work, the message of seeking a reason to live again even amid despair is woven in.
Shin Gyeong-hye, artistic director and director of Theater Company Biyu, described it as "a story offered to those going through their most difficult times," adding, "I created this work with the hope that people will feel that no one's pain is ever truly alone, and that they can find the strength to live again through each other's stories."
She continued, "Opening Biyu Art Hall with 'Marigold' is most in line with the direction the company has long contemplated," and added, "We plan to continue consistently presenting works centered on people's lives and emotions."
Producer Lee Jong-hyeon said, "I wanted to create a performance that could deeply connect with audiences' lives and emotions," explaining, "I focused on incorporating both artistic quality and meaningful messages so that culture and the arts can play a role in broadening social empathy."
He also stated, "With the opening of Biyu Art Hall as an opportunity, we will build a more stable creative environment and develop a sustainable performance production model through diverse collaborations and new endeavors."
Biyu Art Hall plans to establish itself as a creativity-centered performance space starting with this inaugural production. Theater Company Biyu also intends to continue repertoire performances and new creative works based on the creative experience accumulated over the years.
Performances are held on weekdays at 7:30 PM, and on Saturdays at 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM for two showings. On Sunday, May 10, performances will be held at 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM, and on Sunday, May 17, at 2:00 PM.
A single performance is becoming more than just a stage — for some, it is a small comfort that helps them endure another day.
