Shin Dong Yup's daughter Jihyo to debut on ballet stage at SNU

Jihyo, the daughter of broadcaster Shin Dong Yup and PD Sun Hye-yoon, is set to take her first official stage since enrolling at Seoul National University. Having honed her dance skills since childhood, she is drawing significant attention as she marks her transition into university life and begins her serious artistic pursuits.

On the 15th, Jihyo shared a poster for the Seoul National University Dance Department's regular performance on her SNS account with the brief caption “D-1.” Expressing her excitement for the upcoming show, she wrote, “My first performance since entering the university. I have prepared hard. Please come and watch.”

The 62nd regular performance of the Seoul National University Dance Department, titled ‘Dance, Making One Dance,’ featuring Jihyo, will be held on the 16th at 6 PM at the Seoul National University Dure Arts Center. The performance is themed ‘A Life with Dance,’ spanning from her childhood to the present and looking toward the future. She aims to express the excitement, frustrations, growth, and deep affection for art experienced through dance on stage.

This performance holds great significance as it is Jihyo's first stage since entering university. Interest is mounting to see how she will translate the expressive power and stage experience she built while majoring in ballet into the new environment at Seoul National University. Additionally, fans are curious whether her father, prominent broadcaster Shin Dong Yup, will attend to cheer her on.

Jihyo received systematic artistic training, majoring in ballet at Sunhwa Arts Middle School and Sunhwa Arts High School. She chose to balance academics and dance by enrolling in the Department of Physical Education at Seoul National University this year.

Her admission to the university drew attention not merely because of her parents' fame, but due to her own individual achievements. Upon graduating from Sunhwa Arts High School, she demonstrated excellence in both academics and the arts, earning an Academic Excellence Award, a Practical Excellence Award, and several scholarships.

Her mother, PD Sun Hye-yoon, is also an alumna of Seoul National University's Department of German Education, making headlines as mother and daughter are now alumni of the same institution. As Shin Dong Yup has been a beloved figure in broadcasting for years, eyes are on Jihyo as she develops her own identity as an artist, independent of her famous parents.
