Kim Hye-eun delivers intense presence in 'Chaebol X Detective 2'

Actress Kim Hye-eun made a special appearance in 'Chaebol X Detective 2', revealing a chilling charisma from her very first scene.

In the eighth episode of the SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Chaebol X Detective 2' (written by Kim Bada, directed by Kim Jae-hong), which aired on August 29, Kim appeared as Jung Tae-seon, the chairwoman of UBS Media Group and mother of Yu Seong-won (played by Yoo Seung-ho). She heightened the tension of the series by delicately portraying everything from her cold pressure on her son to her momentary emotional tremors.

Reuniting with her son after four years, Jung showed no sign of being pleased. She asked Yu bluntly, "When are you getting out?" and pressured him to cancel his upcoming exhibition without hesitation. Her ability to remain largely emotionless even in the face of her son's sarcasm clearly demonstrated her intense need for control.

However, when Yu revealed that he "cannot enter the UK again," a momentary crack appeared in Jung's composure. Sensing that her son had caused trouble in the UK, she suppressed her anxiety and looked Yu straight in the eye. Her subsequent departure, leaving behind only a cold smile following her son's provocation, vividly illustrated the deep-seated conflict between the two.

Jung's control continued thereafter. She instructed Mr. Hwang to monitor Yu to ensure he doesn't cause any more trouble, pressuring him with the blunt command, "Do your job right, Mr. Hwang." Through restrained expressions and tone, Kim heightened her presence by emphasizing the character's intimidating nature.

In particular, Kim engaged in a confrontation with Yoo where neither side backed down, portraying the complex emotions of two individuals far removed from a typical mother-son relationship. By expressing the momentary anxiety hidden behind her ruthless attitude, she added a layer of intrigue to the character of Jung Tae-seon.
