Kim Myung-soo and Kang Min-ah Spark Early Excitement at First 'Empathy Cells' Script Reading

Ahead of its first broadcast in July, the new drama 'Empathy Cells' has raised anticipation by revealing scenes from its script reading, where the cast met and worked together for the first time.

'Empathy Cells' is a romantic comedy about a woman who refuses empathy and a man who comes to feel other people's emotions exactly as they do. After the two are drawn together by a surreal incident known as emotional transfer, they gradually enter each other's lives and experience both love and personal growth. Built on this distinctive premise, the series is preparing to present a story that sets itself apart from conventional romantic comedies.

The script reading was attended by director Kim Chil-bong and writer Jung Yeon, along with cast members Kim Myung-soo, Kang Min-ah, Kwon So-hyun, Cha Min-ji, Shin Woo-gyeom, Kang Pil-joon, Kim Da-hye, Ok Yoon-joong, Jang Sung-won, Kim Yi-hyun, and Park Chae-won. Although it was their first time acting together for the project, the performers showed natural delivery and steady teamwork, lifting expectations for the production.

Kim Myung-soo appears as Cha Eun-hwan, a famous psychological counselor. During the reading, he expressed not only the character's warm and approachable charm, but also the hidden wounds inside him with a delicate touch. Cha Eun-hwan is a counselor who has been on a successful path in his career, only to become caught up in an unexpected incident. Kim's natural portrayal of that shift drew favorable responses at the scene.

Kang Min-ah takes on the role of Yoo Ji-an, an actress who was formerly a member of a girl group. She brought out the character's distinctive appeal, adding lovely energy to a figure who can appear cold because of her lack of empathy. Interest is growing in how the drama will unfold Yoo Ji-an's turbulent story, as she falls in an instant from the position of a top star.

Kwon So-hyun showed stable acting as Han Yi-jin, a promising actress. Her character carries jealousy rooted in memories of having been overshadowed in the past by Yoo Ji-an, who was once in the same girl group. Kwon expressed that emotion with a sense of realism, adding tension to the drama.

Alongside them, Cha Min-ji, Shin Woo-gyeom, Kang Pil-joon, Kim Da-hye, Ok Yoon-joong, Jang Sung-won, Kim Yi-hyun, and Park Chae-won also brought energy to the work through performances shaped by each actor's individual personality. In particular, the unusual subject of emotional transfer and the cast's harmonious synergy came together to signal the arrival of a new romantic comedy.

Meanwhile, 'Empathy Cells' is directed by Kim Chil-bong, who previously directed the dramas 'Numbers: Watchers of the Building Forest' and 'The Second Husband.' The screenplay is written by Jung Yeon and Kim Sung-rae. The drama will be released simultaneously on Lifetime, LG U+tv Mobile, and Disney+ at 10:50 p.m. on Saturday, July 4.

With the fresh imagination of sharing emotions layered over the actors' first signs of chemistry, 'Empathy Cells' is ready to bring a new kind of excitement to home viewers this summer.
