Kim Gi-ri's Wife Moon Ji-in Shares Genetic Test Anxiety Ahead of August Birth

Actress Moon Ji-in, the wife of comedian Kim Gi-ri, shared an update as the couple prepares for the birth of their child in August.

On June 12, Moon uploaded a video to her YouTube account titled, "Could My Younger Sibling's Developmental Disability Be Genetic? Why I Suddenly Had to Take a Genetic Test." In the video, she and Kim visited a hospital for a regular prenatal checkup.

While watching the ultrasound, Moon Ji-in and Kim Gi-ri smiled happily as they saw their son growing steadily. Their expressions soon changed, however, when they heard what the doctor had to say.

Moon explained, "I have a younger sibling with a developmental disability. I was told that it could be genetic, so I took a genetic test for Fragile X syndrome. If there is an abnormality in the X gene on the mother's side, it can be inherited, so I had no choice but to get tested. The results come out in two weeks."

Moon had previously spoken publicly about her younger sibling, who has a developmental disability. She said the test was being done as a precaution, adding, "They say it is inherited through the mother. They also said the probability is higher when carrying a boy. Because I am my mother's daughter and I am pregnant with a son, they said there could be a 25 percent chance."

Later, the couple contacted the hospital and received the test result that their baby was normal. After hearing the news, they let out a sigh of relief.

Moon said, "For ten days, I really went through a lot emotionally. I am so grateful. There may be other tests ahead, but I have been able to let go of the biggest fear."

In March, Moon had shared her pregnancy news while also opening up about the pain of a previous miscarriage. She wrote, "It feels like it has not been long since we told everyone about our marriage, but we are already in our third year, and now we are becoming a mom and dad. We are no longer two, but three."

She continued, "Saengmyeong-i, whom we will meet in August, came to us not long after we got married, but we met only briefly and then had to say goodbye. After that, there was a rather long period of waiting. I set aside, for a while, the work I loved, soccer, and even YouTube, and kept making great efforts as time passed. Still, I felt as if one part of my life had briefly stopped."

Moon added that after repeated setbacks, the baby returned to them. "When I was confused by the continued failures, thankfully, Saengmyeong-i came back to us on their own. I think it was a precious journey of meeting Saengmyeong-i again. We are going to prepare well for the new beginning of becoming three."

Moon Ji-in and Kim Gi-ri held their wedding ceremony in May 2024.
