Lim Ji-yeon: "I Made a Glamorous Debut with the Film 'Obsessed,' but There Was No Follow-Up Work"
Lim Ji-yeon reflects on her early career slump after 'Obsessed' while discussing her current popularity in SBS drama 'A Wonderful New World.'
Lim Ji-yeon looked back on the difficult period that followed what she described as a glamorous debut with the film Obsessed, saying that after the project ended, there was suddenly no work waiting for her.

On June 10, tvN's You Quiz on the Block released a preview for next week's episode featuring Lim Ji-yeon. The preview highlighted both her recent momentum and the candid way she spoke about the uncertainty she once faced early in her career.
Lim is currently receiving strong attention for her role as Shin Seo-ri in the SBS Friday-Saturday drama A Wonderful New World. Host Yoo Jae-suk acknowledged that popularity by saying, "At a time like this, the smile never leaves your face." Lim responded by showing satisfaction with the project, saying, "When the tide comes in, that is when you have to row hard. I wanted to try comedy acting. I am not exactly behind others when it comes to being funny in my own way, so I want to make viewers laugh."
Yoo also pointed to a specific scene from A Wonderful New World, saying, "I knew it. Lim Ji-yeon is really funny. I laughed a lot when I saw you suddenly pull up grass and hit someone with it."
Lim burst into laughter as she explained that the moment came from her own idea. "That was my idea too," she said. "Later, the director was really fed up with it because I kept talking about it. Still, we eventually did it, and it worked."
She also spoke about actor Heo Nam-joon, her co-star in A Wonderful New World. Discussing the way a romantic comedy usually frames its male lead, Lim said, "In a romantic comedy, the male lead absolutely has to come out looking handsome. But I wanted to avoid that kind of thing. Do you know that right now you are getting all the lighting?" Her comments showed that she was pleased with their dynamic in the drama.
Looking back on a harder time in her past, Lim said, "I made a glamorous debut with the film Obsessed, but after filming it, there was nothing for me to do tomorrow. Still, I had to get through today, and I thought a lot about whether I was a very ambiguous person." The article noted that although she had debuted in striking fashion through Obsessed, work did not come in afterward in the way expectations might have suggested.
Lim Ji-yeon's filmography includes the films Obsessed, The Treacherous, Luck-Key, and Tazza: One Eyed Jack, as well as the dramas High Society, Blow Breeze, Welcome 2 Life, Rose Mansion, The Glory, and The Tale of Lady Ok. After recent consecutive successes with The Glory, The Tale of Lady Ok, and now A Wonderful New World, she is enjoying what the article described as the peak period of her career.
