IVE's Jang Wonyoung sparks debate over posture at Everland event
IVE member Jang Wonyoung faces online scrutiny over her posture during a recent Everland collaboration event, amid ongoing discussions of her public conduct.
Jang Wonyoung, a member of the group IVE, has once again found herself at the center of online scrutiny following a video filmed at an Everland event. The new controversy arrives before the debate surrounding her airport identity verification procedures has even subsided. As a video lasting only a few seconds circulates, interpretations of her posture and attitude have clashed, with some arguing the reaction is an excessive overinterpretation.

The controversy stems from the 'ForEVER IVE' special collaboration Project between IVE and Everland, held on the 1st in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do. During the event, the members of IVE made an unannounced appearance to experience rides and tour the collaboration space, providing special memories for fans and visitors.
Due to the unexpected appearance of IVE, numerous visitors pulled out their mobile phones to film, and the footage spread rapidly through various online communities and social networking services (SNS). The video in question shows the members touring the collaboration booth while listening to explanations from staff.
The controversy centers on Jang Wonyoung's posture. In the released video, wearing an off-the-shoulder top and denim pants, she appeared to keep her arms crossed while listening to the staff's explanation. In contrast, other members were seen with their hands folded in front of them or listening in a more natural manner, prompting comparisons online.
As the clip spread, some netizens criticized her conduct as a public figure, offering opinions such as, "It is polite to uncross your arms when listening to an explanation," "A more cautious attitude is needed in public settings," and "Even a minor action can lead to misunderstandings."
Conversely, many users raised strong counterarguments, stating, "It is unreasonable to judge someone's character solely based on an arm-crossed pose," "Judging attitude based on a fragmentary video is an excessive interpretation," "It could just be a habitual or comfortable posture," and "Creating a controversy out of a few-second video is excessive character assassination." Opinions remain sharply divided online between critics and defenders.
Jang Wonyoung was recently embroiled in a controversy regarding identity verification procedures at the airport. During her departure from Shanghai, China, footage surfaced showing her briefly lowering only her mask while wearing a hat. This led to suspicions in some online communities that she had not properly complied with identity verification regulations, which eventually escalated into a "preferential treatment" controversy.
However, subsequent footage confirmed that Jang removed both her hat and mask to complete the identity verification process. The Korea Airports Corporation also updated the guidance on its website to specify, "Please briefly remove masks, hats, and sunglasses for identity verification," providing more detailed instructions for the procedure.
In a digital environment where even the minor gestures of celebrities are consumed in real-time, Jang has once again become the focus of consecutive attitude controversies. As with this latest incident, the debate is expected to persist as cautious voices argue against judging character from a short clip, while others maintain that public figures must exercise extra care in their actions due to intense public interest.
