Jo Kwon reveals Kim Hye-soo's support during parents' cancer battle

2AM's Jo Kwon has expressed deep gratitude toward actress Kim Hye-soo, who extended a helping hand during his most difficult moments, including his parents' battle with cancer and his own financial struggles. On the 8th, while appearing on the 'Shin-Yeoseong' segment of the YouTube channel 'Rolling Thunder' to discuss his musical career and connections with fellow actors, Jo revealed his special bond with Kim. The two first met through the 2013 MBC drama 'The Queen of Office' and have maintained their friendship for over 10 years.

According to Jo, Kim has consistently visited his musical performances since then. In particular, she reportedly watched his musical 'Priscilla' several times, offering unwavering support for his work and acting. Recalling the time, Jo even performed an impression of Kim, noting how she would praise him after a show by saying, "Honey, you did so well.'

He explained that the investment costs covered by the agency during his trainee days were perceived as debt, and it took several years after his debut to finally receive settlements.

Jo previously shared on a broadcast that he only began receiving settlements 3 to 4 years after his debut. He recalled a heartbreaking moment when he returned home after a recording to find his mother washing her hair with cold water because the hot water had been cut off. That sight became the catalyst for his determination to work harder.

However, his most grueling period was during his military service. He revealed that both his mother and father were battling cancer at the same time. His mother underwent surgery to amputate a toe due to melanoma, while his father required multiple surgeries for rectal cancer. Jo recalled feeling psychologically and economically overwhelmed, as he was unable to work during his service and was also dealing with contract renewal issues with his agency. He has previously disclosed his family's health struggles on television.

It was during this time that Kim Hye-soo provided strength to Jo. Knowing his situation, Kim told him, "I just hope you stay healthy and finish your service safely," while helping him through the burdens he could not carry alone. It has also been suggested in past broadcasts that Kim provided financial support.
