Lee Ha-neul denies DJ DOC reunion, says no reconciliation with Kim Tschang Yeul
DJ DOC's Lee Ha-neul clarifies that despite a new album planned for November, he has not reconciled with Kim Tschang Yeul over past financial disputes.
DJ DOC member Lee Ha-neul has personally denied rumors of a reconciliation with Kim Tschang Yeul. While speculation arose that the two might have settled their conflict to promote DJ DOC's upcoming album in November, Lee drew a clear line, stating, "I have not reconciled with Kim Tschang Yeul yet."

Lee was addressing questions regarding Kim while communicating with fans through his YouTube channel on the 28th. When asked if he had reconciled with Kim due to money, Lee dismissed the notion, saying, "When did I ever say I would work with Chang-yeul? That is just your personal speculation."
The situation was triggered by Lee's recent announcement that a new DJ DOC album is scheduled for release this November. With news of new music coming under the DJ DOC name, fans speculated that the long-standing conflict between Lee and Kim might have been resolved.
However, Lee's explanation was different.
He emphasized repeatedly, "I haven't spoken to Chang-yeul at all," and "I haven't even reconciled with Chang-yeul yet. I never said I would work with him." This implies that the plans for the group's new album and the restoration of his personal relationship with Kim are separate matters.
The rift between Lee and Kim dates back to 2021. The conflict between the two surfaced following the passing of the late Lee Hyun-bae, who was Lee's younger brother and a member of the group 45RPM.
At the time, Lee publicly claimed that Kim bore responsibility for Lee Hyun-bae's death. Lee's side argued that Kim unilaterally withdrew from a business venture they were pursuing together, which increased the financial burden on Lee Hyun-bae; subsequently, Lee Hyun-bae passed away in an accident while working a part-time job to make a living.
In this process, their long-standing friendship and musical partnership were effectively severed. DJ DOC is a group that gained popularity since the 1990s by crossing the boundaries of hip-hop and popular music with a unique musical color and bold social satire. Along with Jung Jae-yong, Lee and Kim led the team for a long time, serving as a pillar of one of the longest-running groups in Korean popular music history.
As such, the discord between the two held more significance than a simple conflict between colleagues. It was a major shock to fans that a relationship maintained as musical partners for many years collapsed due to disputes surrounding a family member's death and financial issues.
Changes were also seen in DJ DOC's subsequent activities. At the end of last year, Lee performed with Jung Jae-yong, excluding Kim. As the sight of the three core members appearing on stage as a full group virtually disappeared, interest in DJ DOC's future direction continued.
The news of this new album drew even greater attention against this backdrop. Since the name DJ DOC itself is difficult to separate from the relationship of the three members, Lee's announcement naturally led to questions about Kim's potential involvement.
However, Lee clearly distinguished the two. He stated that album production and reconciliation with Kim are separate issues, and that there is currently no conversation between the two to restore their relationship.
In particular, Lee's strong rebuttal to the question of whether he "reconciled because of money" shows that the financial issue remains a sensitive matter, as it was the core of their past conflict. It also means that it is difficult to interpret the resumption of group activities as the resolution of past grievances.
Ultimately, the facts confirmed so far are that Lee has announced plans for a new DJ DOC album, and he has personally denied reconciliation and joint activities with Kim.
As DJ DOC, which led the popularization of Korean hip-hop since the 1990s, prepares to release new music, whether the three members can stand on the same stage remains uncertain. At least based on Lee's recent remarks, the resumption of musical activities does not necessarily mean the restoration of personal relationships.
Whether their long friendship can reunite under the name of music after being severed by conflict, and what form DJ DOC's next steps will take, is expected to be confirmed through their future activities.
