Lee Ji Hyun weeps over provocative editing of ADHD son on 'Dr. Oh's Golden Clinic'

Lee Ji Hyun, a former member of the group Jewelry, shed tears while opening up about the emotional distress she experienced following her appearance on Channel A's 'Dr. Oh's Golden Clinic'. In particular, she expressed deep regret, noting that the broadcast focused on provocative scenes intended to trigger her son for the sake of the show, leading to him being hurt by the label 'Geumjjoki' (Golden Kid).

Appearing on the YouTube content 'Sky Scent' released on the 11th, Lee Ji Hyun candidly shared the aftermath of her television appearance and her feelings of guilt toward her son.

During the appearance, announcer Kim Jaewon cautiously broached the subject, asking, "I heard you went through a difficult time after appearing on the show."

After a moment of silence, Lee Ji Hyun revealed, "I still carry that pain. I often blame myself, wondering why I did that back then."

The program she referred to was 'Dr. Oh's Golden Clinic,' which she appeared on to consult regarding her son's ADHD symptoms and parenting issues. Lee Ji Hyun claimed that the broadcast deviated from the direction she and the production team had originally intended. She explained, "They said they had to see the child's very negative sides to provide an accurate diagnosis and fix the issues, so there were parts where the child was heavily provoked."

The problem arose after the broadcast. Lee Ji Hyun stated, "Because they gathered and edited the parts where the child was provoked, the aftermath after the broadcast was severe."

She continued, "I felt so sorry for my child. I am fine, but I worried that what my child hears from the outside would be too hurtful," expressing more concern for her young son, who had to endure external scrutiny and judgment, rather than herself.

Lee Ji Hyun eventually broke into tears while recalling a recent conversation with her son.

She said, "Our family visited the United States in January. Then my son said, 'Mom, when we go to America, people won't know I'm a Geumjjoki.'"

The casual remark from her son came as a massive shock to Lee Ji Hyun. "Even if he doesn't say everything to me directly, it stayed deeply in his heart," she confessed. "That time was truly too painful to bear."

She explained that her greater pain was not how she was perceived on screen, but how her son began to perceive himself through the eyes of others.

"It still hurts so much even now. I wish time would pass quickly so it can be forgotten," Lee Ji Hyun confessed. She added, "Actually, the child is innocent. I just hope he can grow up and find a positive way to embrace the term 'Geumjjoki'."

Lee Ji Hyun's confession brings to light another issue that can arise when a child's problems are handled publicly through broadcast programs. While parents make these choices hoping for help with their child's treatment and growth, there is a possibility that public evaluation and labeling can return as direct wounds to the child.

Furthermore, she has made various efforts for her child's growth and treatment, such as spending time living in the United States to more actively respond to her son's ADHD symptoms and educational needs.
