Nam Yu-jeong, a former member of BBGIRLS, took the stage as a solo singer at a major music festival for the first time since leaving the group, but unlike expectations, she received mixed reviews online. Her performance is drawing even more attention as it stands in stark contrast to Seo In-young, who performed at the same 'Waterbomb Sokcho 2026' stage on the same day and received praise for her past hits and solid stage presence.

Nam Yu-jeong took the stage at 'Waterbomb Sokcho 2026' held at the Hanwha Resort Seorak Sorano in Sokcho, Gangwon Province, on the 22nd. For her, having transitioned to an actress after leaving BBGIRLS, this performance held great significance as it was her first solo stage and her first appearance at 'Waterbomb.'

On this day, Nam Yu-jeong performed several songs, including her recently released remake 'Invitation,' as well as 'I Really Like You,' 'Just a Feeling,' 'In the Summer,' and 'Prince of the Sea.' In particular, she sought to add variety to the performance by sharing the stage with BTOB's Minhyuk, who participated as a featured artist on 'Invitation.'

The issue arose after the performance video was released online. Some netizens expressed disappointment regarding the song composition, performance, and stage completeness as a solo artist. Nam Yu-jeong had also candidly shared her feelings of pressure ahead of the performance. Appearing on the YouTube channel 'Ddip' on the 21st, she said, "Even when I was in the team, I had never released a solo song," adding, "On one hand, it is burdensome, and on the other hand, it is enjoyable. It has been a long time since I stood on stage."

She further explained, "When promoting the album, I was worried about how to handle doing many music shows, but when I was given this wonderful Waterbomb opportunity, I decided to give it a try with this." It seems she chose 'Waterbomb' as the starting point for her new activities, despite the pressure of her first solo festival stage.

On the other hand, Seo In-young, who performed on the same day, received relatively positive reactions. Seo In-young heightened expectations even before the performance by revealing her preparation and self-management process for 'Waterbomb' through her own YouTube channel.

On stage, she drew responses from the audience by performing her representative songs such as 'Cinderella' and 'Thank You.' As her long-established hits combined with her unique stage experience, reactions like "The return of the Queen" emerged on-site. It was also reported that she was moved to tears by the heated response after finishing the performance, leading to evaluations that the stage itself was completed as a narrative.

The differing reactions between the two cannot be explained simply by differences in singing ability or performance. This is because an artist's competitiveness on a festival stage is a complex interplay of individual skill, representative repertoire that the audience can immediately recognize, stage experience, and character consistency.

For Nam Yu-jeong, this 'Waterbomb' is less of a failure and more of a testing ground in the process of building a new identity for her activities. As she must set aside the familiar label of being a member of BBGIRLS and create her own musical color and representative songs, it has become important how she will balance the two fields of solo singer and actress moving forward.

Nam Yu-jeong debuted as a member of BBGIRLS in 2016. While the team secured public recognition as 'Rollin' achieved explosive popularity through a chart climb in 2021, she moved her field of activity to acting after leaving the team in April 2024. Currently, BBGIRLS is active as a three-member group consisting of Minyoung, Eunji, and Lee Yu-na.
