Park Wi controversy resurfaces past fortune-telling claims

As YouTuber Park Wi apologizes for the controversy surrounding the release of KTX accident CCTV footage, a past fortune-telling video regarding his marriage to Song Ji-eun, a former member of the group Secret, is drawing renewed attention. In the video, a fortune teller analyzed the couple's fortunes, using strong language regarding Park's personality and stating that Song "must endure a lot."

In December 2024, fortune teller Oh Seong-gung Park Yeon released a video on her YouTube channel titled 'Song Ji-eun ♥ Wheracle Park Wi Spiritual Reading / The man has many unpleasant traits... Not good, not good.'

At the time, Park Yeon interpreted Song's fortune by saying, "She is kind and has a personality that focuses on only one person," adding, "The woman will have to endure a lot." Regarding Park, she stated, "He has a quick temper" and "There is some selfishness rather than consideration."

She continued, "In short, it is a fortune where the woman is pitiful," claiming, "When I see such a fortune, I oppose marriage. If she meets this man, the woman will suffer." She added an interpretation suggesting that rather than economic issues, there could be many things the spouse has to endure due to her partner.

After confirming the couple's actual relationship, she softened her expression somewhat. While saying, "Personally, I hope the two of you live well together," she evaluated that Song made a big decision for the marriage, noting, "The woman has to endure a lot. It is somewhat unfortunate."

While this fortune-telling was content that interpreted individual destiny and personality from a Myeongrihak (traditional Eastern philosophy) perspective, the past remarks are spreading online again due to the recent controversy surrounding Park.

On the 21st, Park released CCTV footage of an accident that occurred on a KTX via his YouTube channel 'Wheracle.' He explained that after using the KTX for a lecture on the 14th, he suffered an accident while using a portable ramp during the process of disembarking in a wheelchair.

The released video includes scenes such as Park falling after his wheelchair wheel got caught in the foot of a social service agent who was helping him disembark. Park explained that he released the video with the intention of raising awareness about safety accidents that can occur during the movement of people with disabilities and to prevent the recurrence of similar accidents.

However, controversy arose following the release of the video. Given that it was known the social service agent had apologized to Park at the time of the accident, criticisms were raised regarding whether the method of releasing CCTV footage containing that individual's image through a channel with a large subscriber base was appropriate.

In particular, points were made that the boundary between raising a matter of public interest and public criticism of an individual was ambiguous. It was argued that even if there was an intention to inform the public of safety issues, the position of the person appearing in the video, protection of personal information, and the possibility of secondary damage should have been considered.

Ultimately, Park switched the CCTV video to private and apologized.

He stated, "I did not think about the position of the worker who did their best to help me at the scene and apologized politely at the time the situation occurred," and added, "I only thought negatively about the mistake that occurred in the process of trying to help me better."

He continued, "My method of delivery was immature and my thoughts were short," apologizing to the officials who helped him at the scene and saying, "I deeply apologize" to those who watched the video. He also expressed his intention to show a more mature and responsible attitude in the future content production process.

Park and Song completed their marriage registration in September 2024 and held their wedding ceremony in October of the same year. The two have publicly shared their dating and marriage process, and their marriage garnered great interest as it involved Park, who has a disability, and Song, who has been active in the entertainment industry for a long time.

Park has used the aftereffects of accidents and the issue of mobility rights for people with disabilities as his main content subjects. Since his channel 'Wheracle' also grew by focusing on improving social perception of disabilities and reducing prejudices in daily life, this CCTV release controversy more clearly revealed the issue of the balance between the public interest of content and the method of production.
