Han Ga-in critiques Ryu Soo Young's tteokbokki: "Tastes good, but lacks harmony"

Actress Han Ga-in delivered an unfiltered evaluation of the "Ryu Soo Young-style tteokbokki" after attempting to recreate the popular recipe. However, she maintained a balanced perspective, offering a cautious follow-up by noting, "It might just be because of my cooking skills."

On the 23rd, a video titled "If I follow the most popular tteokbokki recipes on YouTube, will they actually be delicious?" was released on the YouTube channel Han Ga-in.

In the video, Han Ga-in personally prepared and compared several highly popular tteokbokki recipes found on YouTube.

Explaining the purpose of her experiment, she said, "I was curious if the tteokbokki recipes with high view counts are truly delicious," adding, "I want to make them myself and evaluate them as honestly as possible."

Her first challenge was "Lifetime tteokbokki," a signature recipe from Ryu Soo Young, who is widely loved as the "Cooking Man.'

When the production team asked if she was close with Ryu, Han Ga-in firmly replied, "Not at all."

She drew laughter from the crew by promising an unembellished tasting, stating, "When I review food, I'm not the type to say something is delicious when it isn't. It shows all over my face."

Han Ga-in's initial reaction to the completed dish was colder than expected.

After a single bite, her expression hardened momentarily. While she noted, "The texture of the rice cake is fine and the sauce itself isn't bad," she added, "The flavors are not harmonious."

She continued bluntly, saying, "It feels like the salty, sweet, and spicy flavors are all playing separately," and "The overall completeness seems to be a bit lacking."

The screen displayed subtitles reading "Seems like they really have no connection," adding to the comedic effect.

However, Han Ga-in did not stop at criticism.

"I don't mean it's bad tteokbokki. It tastes good, but it's just somewhat ambiguous," she explained, repeatedly adding, "I might have made it wrong."

She further remarked, "Even with the same recipe, the taste can change depending on the person making it. If Ryu Soo Young makes it himself, it could be much more delicious, or this result might just be due to my cooking skills."

Rather than making a definitive judgment on the recipe itself, she showed a thoughtful approach by reflecting on her own cooking process.

During the episode, Han Ga-in prepared and compared five different popular tteokbokki recipes before revealing the final rankings.

Unfortunately, Ryu Soo Young's "Lifetime tteokbokki" placed 5th.

To prevent any misunderstanding, she emphasized until the end, "I think I made this wrong," and "It is highly likely due to my skills rather than a problem with the recipe."

As recipe-based content continues to surge in popularity on YouTube, Han Ga-in provided unique entertainment by moving beyond a simple "mukbang" to offer objective comparisons and honest opinions, all while showing respect for the original creators. Her tendency to acknowledge her own shortcomings following a blunt critique earned her both empathy and trust from viewers.
