Hwang Jung-min shares emotional call with son in Marine Corps: 'You must endure it'

Actor Hwang Jung-min revealed his deep paternal affection while sharing updates about his son, who recently enlisted in the Marine Corps.

On the 24th, Hwang appeared on the YouTube channel 'Channel 15ya' in a video titled 'If Hwang Jung-min says aliens exist, then they exist,' alongside actors Zo In Sung and Jung Ho-yeon, who star in the film 'Hope' (directed by Na Hong-jin).

During the appearance, PD Na Yeong-seok asked Hwang about his son's welfare following his enlistment. Hwang responded, "It has been a week since he joined the military, and tomorrow marks the start of his second week. After the first week passed, he was allowed to use his mobile phone, so we were able to talk for about an hour."

However, his son's voice was not what he expected. Recalling the moment, Hwang said, "The call came, and when I picked up, I could hear him crying."

As the cast members expressed their sympathy, he drew further attention by revealing, "He went to the Marine Corps."

Hearing his son's distress, the father offered firm encouragement rather than mere consolation. Hwang stated, "He must be having a hard time. But I told him he must absolutely endure it. I told him, 'If you think this is the hardest moment in your life, you just have to get through this.'"

Though it was a brief sentiment, it carried both concern and faith for his child. While Hwang has portrayed intense characters in numerous works, he showed a sincere side on this day as a father watching his son grow.

His advice—emphasizing that while he understands the fear and loneliness of adapting to the high-intensity training of the Marine Corps, it is ultimately a time the son must overcome himself—resonated with many parents and children.

Hwang is currently meeting audiences through the film 'Hope.'
