Hye-Gul Hong: "I'm not envious of Jang Hang Jun, Do Kyung Wan, or Lee Sang Soon at all"

Broadcaster Hye-Gul Hong, a former medical journalist, has drawn attention by making remarks suggesting he is significantly dependent on his wife, Esther Lyuh, for financial support.

In the episode of the SBS variety show 'Same Bed, Different Dreams 2: You Are My Destiny' aired on June 30, the couple married for 33 years, Hye-Gul Hong and Esther Lyuh, appeared to share updates regarding their separation, reunification, health issues, and economic activities.

During the broadcast, the two revealed that they ended their approximately five-year separation and have reunited, currently splitting their time between Seoul and Jeju Island. Hye-Gul Hong explained that the decision to end the separation was prompted by Esther Lyuh's struggle with depression. Esther Lyuh mentioned her health challenges, revealing she underwent 28 sessions of Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) during her treatment process.

The couple also showcased their life in a large house located on Jeju Island. The residence was introduced as featuring a spacious garden and an outdoor swimming pool, and Hye-gul Hong disclosed that he has spent about 70 million won on his personal hobby, cycling. Mentioning that he recently took 1st place in a bicycle race, he remarked, "Even with a removed lung, I competed against people in their 20s and won."

Comments regarding their financial relationship followed. Hye-gul Hong expressed his gratitude, saying, "My wife is kind. There is no woman like her," while adding, "It makes me happy when the person I love spends money." In response, Esther Lyuh evaluated him by saying, "My husband's way of spending money is very natural."

Notably, Hye-gul Hong made remarks implying he holds an advantage compared to several other celebrity husbands. He stated, "I am not envious of Jang Hang Jun, Do Kyung Wan, or Lee Sang Soon at all."

Furthermore, regarding the operation of his personal YouTube channel, he mentioned, "I receive 180 million won every month from my wife's company." He explained that this support is "for the production of public interest medical content."

Esther Lyuh added regarding the status of her husband's YouTube channel, "There is almost no profit, but the content continues."

Additionally, Hye-gul Hong revealed plans to operate an abandoned dog shelter on Jeju Island and made a request to his wife for additional economic activity, stating, "We need more profit." He suggested expanding their business, telling Esther Lyuh, "You need to expand into overseas markets and earn foreign currency."

In response, Esther Lyuh reacted by asking, "We are already number one in the industry, do we really need to do more?" The cast members offered various interpretations of the couple's remarks and their relationship dynamics.
