CEO Esther Lyuh reveals will to husband Hye-Gul Hong: 'You get 20%'

Doctor and entrepreneur Esther Lyuh, celebrating her 33rd wedding anniversary, revealed a radical inheritance plan for her husband, Hye-Gul Hong, showcasing her pragmatic philosophy on marriage.

In the episode of the SBS variety program 'Same Bed, Different Dreams 2: You Are My Destiny' aired on the 4th, the daily lives of Esther Lyuh and Hye-Gul Hong, who live together in Seoul, were revealed. During the broadcast, while spending ordinary time exercising and watching dramas, the couple engaged in a candid conversation about unexpected topics: 'life after death' and 'inheritance.'

While watching the drama 'My Dearest,' Lyuh named the character Jang-hyeon, played by Namkoong Min, as her ideal type. She expressed deep affection, citing "a love that protects a woman until the end even if she marries someone else" as the reason.

However, following the romantic talk, more realistic concerns followed. Lyuh mentioned the situation after her husband's potential remarriage, stating, "When a man loves a woman too much and the wife passes away first, there are cases where he remarries quickly because it is hard to live alone."

When Hong replied, "I hope such a thing never happens, but if Esther leaves first, I will live with our dog, Gyeo-ul," Lyuh gave an unexpected response.

"Just meet a new wife and live. But make sure to sign a prenuptial agreement before marriage."

Her advice was not a simple joke. The inheritance plan revealed shortly after surprised everyone.

Lyuh stated, "I have already taken measures. Hye-Gul, you just need to receive about 20%." In response, Hong countered, "I am the spouse, shouldn't I take it all?" and brought up the legal minimum inheritance share for a spouse.

However, Lyuh's mind was firm.

She said, "An accident could happen suddenly. There is a way to distribute assets according to the deceased's wishes, and I have prepared a will and taken legal measures to prepare for that part."

In particular, what Lyuh emphasized was not distrust toward her husband, but the protection of her children's rights.

She said, "I will give you this house and my retirement pension. But in return, do not take away the children's portion."

She continued, "If my husband remarries another woman before the assets are settled, the portion that goes to the children could decrease," and emphasized, "When a stepmother enters the house, the first thing she does is take the children's share. You must sign a prenuptial agreement before marriage," drawing both laughter and realistic empathy.

Lyuh's remarks went beyond the inheritance concerns of a high-net-worth individual, posing a question about how to view the balance of property, love, and responsibility within the relationship of a family.
