Doctor and health functional food entrepreneur Esther Lyuh surprised viewers with a side of herself they had never seen before. Despite a lifetime of busy living, she had always been distant from exercise; the reason she has finally taken up physical management is none other than her heart for her soon-to-be-born grandchild.

Esther Yee: Started Exercising in Her 60s to 'Hold My Grandchild'

In the episode of the SBS variety program 'Same Bed, Different Dreams 2: You Are My Destiny' aired on the 4th, the daily life in the Seoul home of the Esther Lyuh and Hye-Gul Hong couple following their move-in together was revealed.

In this broadcast, the two individuals' differing lifestyles drew significant attention. In particular, one side of Hong's room was filled with several expensive bicycles, capturing the interest of the cast. The revealed prices of the bicycles ranged widely from the 20,000,000 won range to 17,000,000 won and 15,000,000 won.

When asked if there were bicycles at their Jeju Island home as well, Lyuh surprised everyone by revealing, "We have four of each kind there." It was a moment that clearly showcased the hobby of Hong, who places great importance on health and exercise.

However, the biggest twist of the day belonged to Lyuh.

While spending time with their pet dog, Hong walked through a long hallway toward Lyuh's room to look for his wife. There, he encountered an unexpected scene. His wife, whom he assumed would be sleeping or resting, was actually exercising.

Hong could not hide his surprise, exclaiming, "What's going on, Esther! What's going on! I thought you were sleeping?"

In the footage, Lyuh was seen moving her body vigorously while wearing white pajamas. Seeing this, Lee Ji-hye expressed surprise, asking, "Have you started exercising?", while Kim Sook joked, "But isn't it a little scary seeing her do that in those pajamas?", drawing laughter from the group.

In truth, exercise had never been a lifelong habit for Lyuh.

She confessed candidly, "Except for when I was in school, I have never woken up before 10 AM in my entire life." Despite being a doctor who has emphasized health more than anyone, she admitted that changing her own lifestyle pattern was not easy.

The reason she decided to change was her family.

Lyuh shared, "I am about to become a grandmother. My daughter-in-law said, 'I wonder if my mother-in-law will be able to hold the baby?'"

She continued, "I want to exercise so that I can hold my grandchild," touching the hearts of the viewers.

Hong also offered his support for his wife's change, saying, "You did a really good job. Exercise is the only way to live."

Lyuh's current transformation carries a meaning beyond simple health management. Having lived for a long time as a socially successful professional, she is now moving beyond the roles of a 'good doctor' or a 'successful entrepreneur' to prepare to become a grandmother to a family.

As one ages, the purpose of health changes. In youth, one manages their body for themselves, but as time passes, one maintains health to stay with loved ones for longer.

The exercise started by Lyuh is not about reducing numbers or grooming her appearance, but a warm preparation to change herself for the small life that will one day be held in her arms.
