JTBC's "Sagikkun-deul" Enters Reorganization, Broadcasts to Resume in August

JTBC's variety program "Lecture Battle Show Sa(History)gikkun-deul: History Storytellers," hereafter referred to as "Sagikkun-deul," will resume broadcasting in August after going through about a month of program reorganization.

JTBC said on July 3, "'Sagikkun-deul' is scheduled to begin airing again in August after carrying out program reorganization for about one month." The broadcaster's statement confirmed that the current pause is being handled as a temporary break tied to adjustments to the program rather than as an end to the show.

"Sagikkun-deul" recently skipped several broadcasts because of scheduling changes related to coverage of the 2026 Federation Internationale de Football Association North and Central America World Cup. The program did not air on June 11, June 25, or July 2. With additional work now being carried out to improve the production quality of the show, the break will continue for the time being.

The program is a lecture battle-style variety show in which speakers from the fields of history and the humanities compete by interpreting one topic from different perspectives. Through a format that combines varied historical interpretation with storytelling, "Sagikkun-deul" has sought to distinguish itself from other entertainment programs.

During the World Cup broadcast scheduling period, JTBC also made partial adjustments to the airing schedules of several major variety programs, including "Sagikkun-deul," "Divorce Deliberation Camp," "Knowing Bros," and "Han Moon-chul's Black Box Review." At the time, the broadcaster explained that the schedule changes were unavoidable adjustments caused by the placement of sports broadcasts.

Meanwhile, attention has continued around JTBC's program production environment following the broadcaster's recent application for corporate rehabilitation proceedings. Observations were raised that some appearance-fee payment schedules had experienced disruptions, leading to concerns about production conditions. Even so, JTBC stated that, in the case of "Sagikkun-deul," the program would go through reorganization and resume broadcasting in August.

JTBC applied to the Seoul Rehabilitation Court for corporate rehabilitation proceedings on June 15, while also applying for the Autonomous Restructuring Support program. The court later approved the ARS application on June 30 and deferred its decision on whether to open corporate rehabilitation proceedings. By contrast, for some affiliates of JoongAng Group, the court decided to commence rehabilitation proceedings and is moving ahead with the related procedures.
