Kang Bu-ja shares emotional story of son's near-death accident
Actress Kang Bu-ja opens up on MBN's 'Kim Ju-ha's Day and Night' about her son's childhood health crisis and her pride in her successful family.
Actress Kang Bu-ja revealed her deep family pride and affection while reflecting on the growth of her children and grandchildren. She shared heartfelt stories ranging from her son's life-threatening childhood accident to his current work at a medical research lab in the United States, as well as the impressive career paths of her grandchildren.

Kang appeared on MBN's "Kim Ju-ha's Day and Night" on the 14th to share these personal family stories.
During the broadcast, Kang recalled a traumatic incident involving her son shortly after he entered middle school. She explained that he injured his leg while receiving discipline during a physical education class; a wound caused by new shoes then became severely infected by bacteria.
The infection spread to his hip joint, requiring a six-month hospitalization at a university hospital. Kang recalled that the situation became critical when he developed sepsis, leaving him hovering between life and death.
She revealed that she did not hold the school accountable or lodge any protests at the time.
"I never once protested to the school. I just said my son was unlucky," Kang said. She also noted that as a lasting consequence of the accident, one of her son's legs is slightly shorter.
Recalling those days, Kang became tearful, saying, "I wish it had been me who got hurt instead."
However, she quickly turned to a positive outlook on her son's life, stating, "But everything was resolved smoothly, and he is living well after getting married. I am grateful."
Kang then provided an update on her adult son, revealing that he is currently researching Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases at a medical school laboratory in the United States.
Her pride extended to her daughter as well. "My daughter attended the sculpture department at Hongik University as a scholarship student for four years," Kang said.
The growth of her grandchildren also holds profound meaning for her. As family photos were shown, Kang reminisced, "This was when I turned seventy."
She added with a satisfied smile, "Who would have known that my three granddaughters would become a lawyer and doctors?"
For Kang, who has been a public figure for many years, these family stories carry a weight distinct from her glamorous acting career. The fact that her son, having survived a life-threatening infection, is now dedicated to medical research is a particularly significant source of pride.
While revisiting painful memories, Kang expressed deep affection for her family, expressing gratitude for how her children and grandchildren have flourished in their respective fields.
