Kwak Beom: Why I quit investing in Samsung Electronics after profiting

Comedian Kwak Beom has candidly shared his experience of investing 100 million won in the stock market. He drew attention by confessing that he immediately stopped investing even after making a profit, stating, "I actually felt uneasy about unearned income."

On the 20th, a video titled "2030 Asset Growth, How Should You Start?" was released on KB Securities' official YouTube channel.

During the session, Kwak opened up about his investment history, saying, "Many people might be surprised if I talk about my stock history."

He revealed, "Doesn't everyone talk about Samsung Electronics or SK Hynix at least once?" adding, "At the time, I prepared about 100 million won in seed money and purchased Samsung Electronics shares in the 60,000 won range."

He continued, "While they are trading at much higher prices now, I bought them at 60,000 won and sold them at 63,000 won," drawing expressions of regret from the other cast members.

Although he missed out on significant profits, he did not suffer a loss.

Kwak laughed, saying, "I did make a profit," but confessed, "I haven't done stocks again since then."

When the host asked, "If you had suffered a loss, it would be understandable, but why did you quit even though you made a profit?" Kwak revealed an unexpected reason.

He spoke honestly, saying, "Since I am still a beginner at stocks, the feeling that 'money was made without working' was actually scary. I had this anxiety regarding unearned income."

He added, "So today, I want to learn properly," showing his serious contemplation regarding investment.

During the program, Kwak also shared his values when asked, "Would you choose stocks or a savings account?"

He remarked, "I think I am still a generation that trusts savings accounts more. My parents always told me to 'save money' and never told me to 'invest.' But the atmosphere seems to have changed a lot lately."

In response, economic YouTuber Syuka joked, "That's just because you're getting older," which caused the cast members to burst into laughter.

When another participant mentioned, "Nowadays, young professionals engage in a lot of stock investing for long-term purposes," Kwak shared his thoughts, saying, "I fully understand investing with a long-term view, but it doesn't seem easy if you enter the market with the mindset of trying to make a quick profit."

Kwak debuted in 2012 as a comedian from the 27th KBS open recruitment class and garnered significant attention through his activities in "Gag Concert" and his alter ego "Mad Monster." Since then, he has been consistently loved through his appearances in various variety programs such as "Omniscient Interfering View," "Hangout with Yoo," "Amazing Saturday," "Knowing Bros," and "Let's Play Soccer 3." He married a non-celebrity in 2013 and has two daughters.
