Oh Yu Gyeong: "Cheon Jong Sik showed his drunken belly at our first meeting"
Former announcer Oh Yu Gyeong recounts her quirky first meeting with scientist Cheon Jong Sik on KBS 1TV's Morning Forum.
It was anything but ordinary from the very first meeting. As the love story between former announcer Oh Yu Gyeong and scientist Cheon Jong Sik was revealed, their unique first encounter and the proposal that followed just three months later have drawn significant interest. In particular, the episode where Cheon suddenly showed his belly during a drinking session became the most intense moment of their first meeting.

On the September 28 broadcast of KBS 1TV's "Morning Forum" segment "A Special Couples' Story," Oh Yu Gyeong and Cheon appeared together. Recalling the time they first met, the two revealed the fresh yet eccentric beginning of their relationship, which is hard to imagine given their current status as a married couple.
Oh revealed that she first met Cheon through an introduction by announcer Lee Hyeong Geol. Recalling that time, she said, "He looked like an international student in the United States." As the drinking session continued, Cheon's face turned red, and when Lee asked, "Your face is red?", Cheon replied, "My belly is red too," and actually lifted his shirt to show his belly. Oh confessed that she felt annoyed, thinking, "What is wrong with this person?", and didn't even look him straight in the eye afterward.
Interestingly, however, the two remembered the same scene in completely different ways. Cheon stated that he felt an immediate attraction to Oh, saying, "I liked her because she had a more modest style than I expected." Regarding the anecdote about showing his belly, he clarified that "the story was condensed," explaining that he didn't perform such an action immediately upon meeting at the restaurant. He drew laughter by mentioning that several things happened during the second and third rounds of drinks, and while he also did some embarrassing things, he wouldn't go into detail.
The relationship grew rapidly during the second round of drinks. Sitting next to Cheon, Oh was able to look at his face closely and recalled, "His nose bridge was so sharp and his profile was handsome." Oh, who had drunk enough to be intoxicated at the time, said her heart opened at that moment. Cheon took her home, and the two continued talking on the phone until 5 AM. The discomfort of the first impression eventually turned into attraction.
The even more surprising part came next. After starting their relationship that way, the proposal followed just three months later. Although Cheon proposed marriage, Oh did not accept it immediately. Her confession, "I am a cautious person, so I declined," shows that their relationship was not formed simply through intense emotions. While the beginning was a coincidence at a drinking session, their subsequent choice required time to look deeply into one another.
Human connections sometimes begin in small, ridiculous moments rather than grand destinations. The "belly reveal," which could have remained the worst first impression for someone, eventually became a memory for the two, and a chance seat next to each other at a drinking session turned into a conversation lasting until dawn. The story of Oh Yu Gyeong and Cheon Jong Sik shows that unexpected cracks, misunderstandings, and the attraction discovered within those gaps can actually be the starting point for a long-lasting relationship, rather than a perfectly prepared meeting.
