Park Seo-jin supports descendant of national hero with 820,000 won meal

Singer Park Seo-jin took part in a meaningful 'donjjul' (support through spending) to celebrate Liberation Day by visiting a restaurant run by a descendant of a national merit hero. After setting a target amount symbolizing Liberation Day, he enjoyed a meal with students from a wrestling team and exceeded his goal.

In the 469th episode of KBS2's 'Mr. House Husband' aired on the 15th, Park Seo-jin spent a day reflecting on the meaning of Liberation Day alongside his sister Park Hyo-jung and history instructor Sun Kim.

To commemorate Liberation Day, Park Seo-jin took on the challenge of an 8.15km run. Sun Kim suggested a course starting from Tapgol Park in Jongno-gu and passing through Seodaemun Prison History Hall and the Kim Koo Museum. Park Seo-jin, along with his sister Park Hyo-jung, ran along these historical sites, reflecting on the significance of national liberation.

Before the run, Park Seo-jin visited a history museum, where he listened to Sun Kim's explanation regarding the history of the Japanese colonial period and the independence movement. Upon encountering materials detailing the atrocities of the Japanese occupation, he could not hide his anger, saying, "This is truly cruel. They are bad XXs."

After finishing his history study and the 8.15km run, Park Seo-jin headed to a restaurant operated by a descendant of a national merit hero. There, he decided to express his gratitude in a special way rather than just having a simple meal.

Upon arriving at the restaurant, Park Seo-jin declared, "I have a target amount. We must eat 815,000 won worth of food." He set the target at 815,000 won, inspired by the number 8.15, which symbolizes the date of Liberation Day, August 15.

He added, "I thought it would be good to give back to those around me as a way of showing gratitude, so I even called in special reinforcements," as he invited students from the Yeonsin Middle School wrestling team. Park Seo-jin, his siblings, Sun Kim, and the wrestling students began their full-scale 'donjjul' meal by ordering various dishes, including spicy braised chicken (dakdoritang), boiled chicken (dakbaeksuk), and pancakes.

Witnessing the students' vigorous appetites, Park Hyo-jung also showed a competitive side, bringing laughter to the group. In particular, watching the ace student from the wrestling team eat so aggressively, Park Hyo-jung showed a sense of rivalry, asking, "How much have you eaten?"

However, when she herself admitted, "To be honest, I'm full," Park Seo-jin encouraged her to reach the target amount, saying, "Go digest it and come back."

Ultimately, in order to eat more food, Park Hyo-jung went outside the restaurant to do a second round of running before returning. She drew laughter by explaining, "I couldn't eat because I was too hungry. I did some running so I could eat more."

The group continued their meal toward the target amount while sharing the food, and the final payment was tallied at 823,000 won. Park Seo-jin's 'donjjul' project was successfully completed, exceeding the original goal of 815,000 won by 8,000 won.

Upon hearing that the target amount had been reached, the wrestling students cheered, and Park Seo-jin expressed his satisfaction with having spent such a meaningful day.

"I was so happy. It was great to be able to give back to students who exercise at the home of a national merit hero," Park Seo-jin shared. He continued, "While remembering history is important, putting it into action with a grateful heart made even this small practice feel truly meaningful."
