"Why isn't he trying?" Kim Ha-yeon, 47, airs frustration over husband and baby plans

Actor Kim Ha-yeon, 47, said on MBN's "Heart-to-Heart Show Dongchimi" that she feels hurt that her 49-year-old husband is not making an effort as they think about having a child. She also described her mother-in-law's tears over a new grandchild.

"You have to look at the sky to pick a star. Why isn't he making an effort? Sometimes I feel hurt," actor Kim Ha-yeon said of her husband. Now 47, she said she wants to wait for a child to come naturally, but feels frustrated that her husband does not seem to be actively trying. She spoke on the 17th on MBN's entertainment show "Heart-to-Heart Show Dongchimi."

A mother-in-law's tears

Kim also shared a story from her husband's family. At first, they assumed the couple would live without children, and her mother-in-law even told them to be happy together without a child. But when her husband's younger brother and his wife unexpectedly had a baby, her mother-in-law reportedly wept. "My mother-in-law wanted a grandchild too," Kim said.

Seeing that her mother-in-law could not hide her joy and emotion, despite her earlier words, appears to have helped Kim understand how she really felt. Even if the family does not press the couple to have a baby, the wish for a grandchild exists, and that may have become another worry for Kim.

Wanting a child, but not at any cost

When Lee Hyun-yi asked whether her husband did not want a child, Kim answered that he does like children. He does not dislike children, but he seemed to lack initiative when it came to actually becoming a parent. Wanting a child and deciding what to do concretely to conceive are different matters, and Kim's frustration came across as a plea for understanding.

Kim is not pushing for pregnancy at any cost. Speaking about people around her preparing for in vitro fertilization, she said, "Oppa, let's not make it too hard." The process looks difficult, and both she and her husband are no longer young, so she would rather welcome a child if one comes naturally than force the procedure.

Social media and a changing view of family

Thoughts of having a child grew naturally as the marriage went on. Kim said that when she spends time on social media she sees happy families, and sometimes envies those scenes. Watching people around her have children and build happy homes, she said, makes her rethink what family means. Even at 47, she said, news of friends' pregnancies and births stirs envy, and learning that her mother-in-law also longs for a grandchild left her with mixed feelings.

From a vocal lesson to marriage

The episode, themed "I'll Fall in Love This Autumn," featured guests' candid stories. Kim spoke about meeting her husband, married life and the child question that had been hard to raise. "I'm 47 and my husband is 49," she said, adding that she and her husband, two years her senior, are in their second year of marriage.

Their story began in 2022. While preparing to appear on "King of Mask Singer," she went to a vocal lesson academy, where she met her husband, then a vocal trainer, and the two fell in love. She went to learn to sing and found a life partner.

More than a yes-or-no decision

For a 47-year-old and a 49-year-old, having a child is not simply a matter of deciding whether to have one. It also means checking each other's feelings and weighing realistic chances and burdens together. Kim's confession, which mixed a hope for natural pregnancy, pressure from passing time and hurt over her husband's passive attitude, is drawing sympathy.
