Comedian Lee Hee-kyung has welcomed a long-awaited son into her arms ten years after her marriage. After receiving widespread congratulations for announcing her natural pregnancy at age 41, she underwent an emergency C-section due to the sudden onset of preeclampsia symptoms ahead of her expected due date. Both mother and baby are reported to be healthy, and Lee shared her overwhelming emotions immediately following the birth.
On the 31st, Lee announced via her social media account, "I am sharing the news of my childbirth. I gave birth to a son on October 30." Her announcement that a precious life has finally arrived ten years after her marriage drew continuous congratulations from fans.
She expressed her deep emotion, stating, "It feels like just a short while ago that I shared the thankful news of the baby who came to us ten years after marriage, but the child has already arrived on planet Earth." She reflected on the overwhelming feeling of holding the child after the moment she announced her pregnancy felt like only yesterday.
The delivery process proceeded urgently, contrary to original plans. While her original due date was set for November 5, Lee explained that preeclampsia symptoms began suddenly over a few days. Consequently, she had to undergo an emergency C-section on the 30th, ahead of the scheduled date.
Fortunately, both the mother and the baby are currently healthy. "The baby and I are both healthy, and after giving birth, my blood pressure and everything else have returned to normal, so I am just filled with gratitude," Lee said. She expressed relief, adding that her recovery is relatively fast and that "everyone is surprised." She maintained her characteristic humor by joking, "Is all that's left now to lose weight?"
Released photos and videos show Lee smiling brightly in her hospital room while making V-signs with both hands. Noting it was her second day after the C-section, she remarked, "It seems more bearable than I was afraid it would be." She also shared moments of making eye contact with her newborn son for the first time, displaying happy smiles that moved onlookers.
Born in 1984, Lee Hee-kyung worked as a stage actress from 2007 to 2009 before debuting as a 25th-generation KBS comedian in 2010. She garnered public attention through the 'Health Girl' segment on the KBS2 'Gag Concert' corner for her story of losing 32kg, and has continued various broadcasting activities since then.
Lee, who married a businessman seven years her senior in 2016, has now experienced the joy of becoming a parent ten years later. As she met her son after overcoming the crisis of an unexpected emergency surgery, her news has been met with congratulations and support for her healthy recovery.
