A woman is considering divorce after discovering her husband installed a home camera four months ago to allow his mother to monitor their daily lives. The mother-in-law, who claimed she only wanted to see her grandchild, used the device to observe the woman's private activities and needs without her consent.

A mother-in-law secretly monitored her daughter-in-law's daily life through a home camera, claiming she did so because she "wanted to see her grandchild." The issue was compounded by the husband, who connected the camera without informing his wife, and the fact that both the husband and mother-in-law failed to recognize the severity of the privacy violation even after being caught. The daughter-in-law, who initially believed her mother-in-law's attentive care was as thoughtful as a biological mother's, is now considering divorce after realizing that such care stemmed from surveillance.

During the "Anonymous Guaranteed Worry-Crushing 100% Real Story Mini Ask Us Anything" segment of the KBS Joy program "Ask Us Anything Fortune Teller" broadcast on the 19th, the story of "A," a woman who lost trust in her husband and mother-in-law due to the home camera issue, was revealed.

After getting married, A cited the addition of a mother-in-law who cared for her as thoughtfully as a biological mother as the best change in her life. The mother-in-law was so attentive that she would proactively provide necessary items or food. Initially, A accepted this attention with gratitude. However, the ordinary family routine began to take on a different meaning following an incident where a baby almost fell off a bed.

The incident occurred while A was watching TV with her husband after the baby had napped. The mother-in-law suddenly called, urgently telling her to go into the baby's room. When a startled A rushed in, she found the baby struggling and on the verge of falling off the bed. Although she safely picked up the baby, one question remained: how did the mother-in-law, who was not even at the house, know about the baby's dangerous situation?

The husband reacted dismissively, saying, "Our mother just has good intuition." However, as A did not drop her suspicions, the husband eventually confessed the secret. He revealed that because his mother repeatedly demanded photos of the baby, he had connected a home camera about four months ago. The problem was that he had made no explanation to his wife during the process. "The moment I heard that, the events of the past four months began to fit together like a puzzle," A recalled.

During that time, A had been thankful for the mother-in-law's extraordinary attentiveness. When she would mutter to herself in the baby's room—where she spent most of her day caring for the infant—things like, "There are no side dishes to eat. What should I eat?" side dishes would arrive the next day, or if she mentioned feeling unwell, nutritional supplements would be provided. A had believed this was due to the mother-in-law's keen intuition and interest, but she was shocked to learn that the woman had been watching what she said and how she lived inside the house. The actions she believed to be kindness began to look different.

When A protested to her mother-in-law, saying, "If you were watching the home cam, you should have told me. I have my privacy too," the response left an even deeper wound. The mother-in-law replied, "You can just stop watching from now on. Do you think I watched to see you? I watched because I wanted to see my grandchild." She expressed resentment instead, claiming she thought the matter had been discussed with the daughter-in-law since the husband had connected the camera, and even suggested that A was acting affectionately to her face while speaking ill of her behind her back.

A felt shame at the thought that her private moments inside the house might have been exposed. Considering the possibility that the mother-in-law might have seen her changing clothes or having physical intimacy with her husband, she felt this was no longer a simple childcare issue. However, the husband defended his mother, saying, "You ended up calling your mother to argue, right? She said she won't watch from now on. Isn't that enough?" A appealed, "Both my husband and mother-in-law treat me like I'm making a fuss, as if I am some kind of superstar. I feel so betrayed. Is it excessive to consider divorce over this?"

Upon hearing the story, Seo Jang-hoon pointed out that privacy within the home could be violated. "You would be having physical intimacy and changing clothes in that room. You should have informed her in advance," he criticized, adding, "Isn't this a hidden camera?" However, he maintained a cautious stance regarding making an immediate decision to divorce based solely on this issue. Lee Soo-geun also advised that if the husband admits his mistake and sincerely apologizes, it might not be a matter that leads to divorce.

Seo Jang-hoon emphasized that the husband, the mother-in-law, and A must gather to discuss the problem properly. He noted that the reactions of both the husband and the mother-in-law were not common-sense and expressed concern that if the matter is simply brushed aside, it could lead to even greater conflict. He also suggested that if a father-in-law is present, he could act as a mediator to help facilitate family dialogue.

The core of this story is not the desire to see a grandchild. No matter how great the affection for family is, it does not grant the right to peer into every space and daily life within the home. In particular, devices like home cameras, which can monitor private life in real-time, must be predicated on the consent of those living together and a clear scope of use. The husband's decision to connect the device without informing his wife, and the attitude of treating the daughter-in-law's discomfort as an overreaction even after the problem was revealed, were identified as the key factors that broke the trust. For A to trust her family again, it appears a process is needed where the entire family properly accepts the meaning of privacy and consent, rather than simply turning off the home camera.
