Nam Bo-ra reveals 300% NVIDIA return came from just one share
Nam Bo-ra shared her investment gains and regrets on Money Hearing, revealing that her 300% NVIDIA return came from a single share. She also discussed spending on makgeolli and gold, managing money in marriage and her hopes for more children.
Actress Nam Bo-ra earned a 300% return on NVIDIA stock but held only one share, she revealed while discussing her investment successes, regrets and personal spending on Money Hearing.
Appearing on the Channel Kekeu YouTube channel’s show on the 15th, Nam described profitable stock trades that came with qualifications: a small holding in NVIDIA and a sale of SK hynix shares that left her wishing she had waited longer.
She said she bought SK hynix at 195,000 won per share and sold at 215,000 won, earning 20,000 won per share, or roughly 10%. The stock subsequently rose further, leaving her regretting the early sale. Her returns suggested a knack for investing, although her timing gave her reason to look back with disappointment.
Nam also said she bought NVIDIA shares during the COVID-19 pandemic and sold after earning a 300% return. The other participants initially reacted with amazement, then broke into laughter when she added that she had owned just one share. The percentage gain was striking, but the investment itself was small.
Her spending on makgeolli, a Korean rice wine, had been more expansive. When the discussion turned to her having spent the equivalent of a car’s price on alcohol, Nam explained, “There was a time when I was really into makgeolli,” adding, “Really well-made alcohol is very expensive.”
Her interest extended to going out to make makgeolli herself, and the spending accumulated as she pursued the hobby. She once dreamed of releasing her own makgeolli, but that ambition did not materialize.
“I had a dream back then. I really did. But, well, it didn’t work out,” she said, drawing laughter.
Asked about her biggest recent splurge, Nam named gold. She said she had even installed a safe at home to store it.
Nam, who has been married for a little over a year, also spoke candidly about how she and her husband handle money.
“When people get married, they usually pool their income. Husbands put their salaries into their wives’ accounts,” she said, before asking, “Why doesn’t my husband?” Her remark sent those present into laughter.
When host Park Young-jin asked whether she invested without her husband’s knowledge, she replied, “I don’t do it secretly, but there are things I haven’t told him.”
Nam is the second-oldest child and eldest daughter among 13 siblings—eight boys and five girls. She said that whenever she meets her third younger sister, who works at a bank, she asks whether there are any good financial products available.
Park joked that her sister might be contacting her to meet sales targets. Nam replied, “She does tend to get in touch right at the end of the month.”
Having recently given birth to a son, Nam also discussed her hopes for a larger family. “If I could have my wish, five,” she said of the number of children she would like.
She tempered that wish with a more practical assessment: “Given my age, though, I think three might be the limit.” Her candid account ranged from stock trades and an expensive hobby to marital finances and plans for her family.
