Oh Ha-young reveals 4-generation medical lineage, choosing acting over medicine

Actress Oh Ha-young has captured public attention by revealing her extraordinary family history. As news spreads that she hails from a lineage of doctors spanning four generations, her decision to forge her own path as an actress rather than following a predetermined medical career is garnering significant interest.

In a video released on the Netflix Korea YouTube channel on the 6th, Jung Hae-in and Oh Ha-young, the lead actors of the drama 'Our Sticky Love,' appeared to discuss the project and their recent activities.

During the appearance, Oh expressed special affection for her notable work, the Netflix series 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call,' saying, "It was a project I truly enjoyed filming quite a bit.'

"It was the first time I was able to act so freely," she stated. "The director asked me to show my natural and comfortable self, and thanks to that, I gained confidence and was able to act much more freely."

Oh's unique family background became a focal point during the broadcast.

When Yoo Byung Jae asked, "I heard you come from a family of doctors for generations," Oh confirmed the fact, stating, "My father, grandfather, and great-grandfather were all doctors."

She continued, surprising the cast by adding, "From what I heard, my great-grandfather was one of the first people to open a clinic specializing in Western medicine in Hanyang at that time."

Furthermore, Oh's older sister is also practicing as an internal medicine specialist, meaning she grew up in an environment constantly surrounded by medicine.

However, Oh did not choose to follow in her family's footsteps.

"I never once wanted to become a doctor," she said with a laugh. "It is such a difficult profession that I didn't even dare to think about it. I just hoped my sister would work hard at it."

Instead, she chose her own path as an actress, a decision that is now being validated through her performances.

In particular, Oh, who played nurse Chun Jang-mi in 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call,' received critical acclaim for her realistic acting. Since the series featured many technical medical terms and surgical scenes, advice from her family proved invaluable.

"I asked my family many questions because I had to understand the names of medications and medical terms to act properly," Oh revealed. "For the operating room scenes, I even sought advice on things like where a nurse should stand."

Despite her medical upbringing, Oh is carving out her own territory as an actress, proving that personal choice and effort are more important than a prestigious background.

Oh is expanding her presence through Netflix's 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call' and 'Bloodhounds 2.' She will next meet viewers in 'Our Sticky Love,' releasing on the 7th, where she plays Ko Eun-sae, a prosecutor suffering from amnesia.
