Netflix's 'This F***ing Love' bets big on powerhouse supporting cast

Netflix is set to deliver another major hit for home viewers this summer. The original series 'This F***ing Love,' scheduled for release on August 7, is raising expectations by pairing romantic comedy leads Jung Hae-in and Oh Ha-young with a lineup of 'trusted supporting actors' whose names alone promise to add depth to the production.

'This F***ing Love' follows Ko Eun-sae (Oh Ha-young), a prosecutor who has lost her memory, and Jang Tae-ha (Jung Hae-in), a boxing coach who claims to be her boyfriend, as they live together. Set against the backdrop of sudden amnesia, the series promises both heart-fluttering romance and laughter as the two rediscover their past connection through an unpredictable cohabitation.

The production's greatest strength lies not only in its leads but in the overwhelming presence of the supporting cast that enriches the narrative.

First, actor Heo Sung-tae joins the cast to inject tension into the story. Interest is high regarding the dynamic Heo will form with Jung and Oh, given his signature intense charisma and nuanced acting skills.

Additionally, a unique community known as the 'Yeot-maeul Family' adds distinct color to the series. Kim Young-ok will deliver a profound performance as Ko Yeon-hong, a traditional taffy (yeot) artisan suffering from dementia. Her seasoned expertise is expected to serve as the warm emotional anchor of the drama.

Jeon Bae Soo and Seo Jeong-yeon have been cast as the couple Hong Do-yeop and Do Jeong-hwa, who run the 'Hong Boxing Gym.' The two are expected to breathe life into the series with their realistic portrayals and human charm.

Furthermore, Jang Hye-jin, Cha Chung-hwa, and Kim Mi-hwa will appear as the representative 'unnie line' of Yeot-maeul: Paeng Hee-ja, Jo Maeng-sook, and Na Geum-hyang. The sly chemistry and slice-of-life comedy between these three actresses serve as another key highlight.

In addition, Lee Jae Won will play Ahn Ki-jun, a classmate of Jang and the attending physician for Ko, while The One will appear as Kim Kang-rok, Jang's reliable supporter. Choi Yu-ju will take on the role of Min Su-ji, Ahn's lover, portraying the diverse web of relationships within Yeot-maeul.

Director Kim Jang-han stated, "The people of Yeot-maeul are not simply kind characters; they are individuals who discover and grow through the new stimulus provided by Jang Tae-ha and Ko Eun-sae. To express that process convincingly, I wanted to cast the best actors possible."

He continued, "The chemistry between the actors was so natural that there were plenty of ad-libs, and the set was filled with non-stop laughter. You can look forward to the strength shown to protect Yeot-maeul and the warm perspective on the romance between Jang and Ko."

Netflix's recent strategy in the Korean content market has evolved from simply fronting famous stars to strengthening narrative power through highly individualistic supporting casts and solid character groups. 'This F***ing Love' centers on the youth romance of Jung and Oh, but is expected to feel like a living, breathing community thanks to the ensemble of veteran actors including Kim Young-ok, Jang Hye-jin, Cha Chung-hwa, and Kim Mi-hwa.
