Eum Moon-suk showcases versatile charm in Elle photoshoot
Actor Eum Moon-suk reveals his multifaceted charm in a new Elle photoshoot, contrasting his intense 'Yangbae' character from the film 'Hope'.
Actor Eum Moon-suk has once again proven his acting range through the character Yangbae, who left a powerful impression in the film 'Hope'. The actor's inherent charm, previously hidden behind the character's rough exterior, was revealed even more clearly through a recent fashion photoshoot.

Eum participated in a photoshoot for the September issue of the fashion magazine Elle. Centered around the theme 'The Eum Moon-suk You Didn't Know,' the pictorial focused on capturing the gap between the real Eum and Yangbae from the movie 'Hope'.
In the pictorial, Eum demonstrated both the fluid physical movements of a former dancer and a fashionable yet masculine aura. Unlike the rough and intense persona he built for the film, he revealed his diverse facets as both an actor and a performer through restrained expressions and free-flowing poses in front of the camera.
During the interview, he spoke candidly about the reactions from those around him who claimed to have discovered a new side of him through his role as Yangbae in 'Hope'.
Responding to comments like, "Was he such a handsome actor?", Eum laughed, saying, "If you compare him to Yangbae, anyone who played him would have been told they were handsome.""
He then displayed his characteristic wit by describing himself as someone who is "personally quite charming once you get to know him.""

Eum's journey as an actor was not designed for acting from the very beginning. Before becoming an actor, he made a name for himself as a dancer and singer. After leaving a strong impression on the public by showcasing krumping on 'Dancing 9' in 2013, he naturally expanded his career from dance and music into variety shows and eventually into the realm of acting.
When asked if there was a specific event that determined his career path, he replied, "It just flowed naturally.""
For Eum, discovering what he loves was more important than a professional title. He explained, "No matter what I did, there was only one prerequisite: finding something I love. At first, that was dancing, then through dancing, I started singing, then through singing, I did variety shows, and eventually, it led to acting.""
This attitude is evident throughout his acting career. In works such as the drama 'The Fiery Priest', 'Taxi Driver', and the film 'The Roundup', Eum has built characters with strong personalities by actively utilizing their unique physical presence, speech patterns, and movements. In particular, Yangbae in 'Hope' imprinted a new face on the audience by creating a significant gap between the actor's actual image and the character.
Eum also revealed that he does not set a clear destination for his future.
"There is something I have always said since my 20s. Whenever someone asked about my goals, I said, 'I don't know.' Because I don't know how far I will go, I haven't set a cutoff line," he said, adding, "I just focus on what I want to do tomorrow, like water flowing.""

He continued, "That will be reflected in my daily life. If I keep walking while liking what I like and thinking what I think, won't it eventually be assembled into a finished version?"
This philosophy runs through his entire career. His journey, which transitioned from dance to music, variety shows, and finally acting, is less a meticulously calculated path and more a result of following his interests. The process of acquiring new modes of expression whenever he changed genres is what has shaped his present self.
His affection for Yangbae, the character through whom he created another life-defining role in 'Hope', remains strong. Eum admitted he is not yet ready to let the character go.
"I haven't been able to let him go yet. So, I'm going to tell him to stay in the warehouse. I'll tell him to be ready to pop out whenever I open it," he said, jokingly adding, "And don't go around doing weird things!"
For an actor, a life-defining character is not something that disappears the moment a production ends. To Eum, Yangbae is a character he wants to keep in a corner of his memory so that he can revisit him someday.
Having traveled from dance through music and variety shows to reach acting, Eum Moon-suk remains faithful to his present choices rather than fixed goals. All eyes are now on what kind of 'finished version' his journey will eventually create and what new persona he will reveal after Yangbae.
