Park Wi controversy spills over to family as Song Ji-eun's anecdote is targeted

As YouTuber Park Wi faces criticism for revealing a social service agent's mistake, the controversy is spreading to his family members. Some netizens have even turned a heartwarming anecdote previously shared by former Secret member Song Ji-eun regarding her future mother-in-law into a target for criticism, leading to calls to distinguish between criticism of the individual and secondary attacks against their family.

Before marrying Park Wi in October 2024, Song Ji-eun appeared on MBC's 'Radio Star' in May of the same year and shared a story about her future mother-in-law.

At the time, Song revealed that while Park was away on a business trip, she contacted his mother first and was told, "The room is empty, so sleep in your fiancé's room." She added that she was moved to find lace pajamas prepared on the bed when she entered the room.

Song further explained that upon seeing her joy, Park's mother brought out clothes she usually cherished and told her to pick out something she liked to wear. Song recalled the experience as "truly meaningful," noting that she even wore one of those outfits while carrying her bouquet.

During the original broadcast, this story was accepted as an example of the close relationship between a prospective daughter-in-law and her mother-in-law. However, as the recent controversy surrounding Park intensifies, some netizens have been visiting the past footage to leave critical comments.

Some netizens pointed out, "Wouldn't it be better to buy new clothes for a daughter-in-law?" or "Why give her used clothes?", with some even criticizing Park's mother by bringing up economic circumstances. However, since Song herself accepted the anecdote positively and gave it meaning on the show, opinions are divided on whether it is appropriate for third parties to uniformly judge personal gestures of kindness and affection.

The direct trigger for this controversy was the video of a KTX disembarking accident that Park uploaded to his YouTube channel on the 21st.

The video captured a scene where Park, who uses a wheelchair, fell after the rear wheel of his wheelchair got caught on a foot extended by a social service agent during the process of exiting the train via a ramp. Regarding the situation, Park explained, "I was so angry that I couldn't hold it in for a moment," and "It was incomprehensible," noting that it could have led to a major accident.

Park stated through the video that his intention was not to criticize or hold a specific person accountable, but to raise awareness about the need for a safe mobility environment for people with disabilities and accident prevention.

However, criticism arose regarding whether there was a need to target a specific person by releasing CCTV footage through a channel with a large subscriber base, given that it is difficult to conclude the social service agent's actions were intentional and that an apology had already been made on-site. Ultimately, Park deleted the video and apologized.

The controversy did not stop there. As various claims regarding Park's past actions spread online, content that is difficult to verify is also being consumed. Some netizens claimed to be his former classmates and raised suspicions regarding his school life, but conflicting testimonies have emerged, making it difficult to conclude that these one-sided claims are facts.

In this process, criticism is also spreading toward Park's family, including his younger brother and mother. This is why points are being raised that public criticism of an individual's actions is a separate matter from shifting responsibility to family members.
