Fujita Sayuri revisits childhood hotel in Hawaii with son Jen

Broadcaster Fujita Sayuri has shared a touching family trip that bridges generations, revisiting a place from her childhood alongside her son, Jen.

On the 22nd, Sayuri posted several travel photos and a heartfelt message on her social media (SNS) documenting the trip with Jen.

In the released photos, Sayuri showcased a relaxed resort look, pairing a beige loose-knit dress with a wide-brimmed hat, white sandals, and a mint-colored shoulder bag. Appearing carefree, she is seen smiling brightly with her arms stretched above her head. Beside her, Jen mimicked his mother's movements, lifting both feet off the ground with an innocent smile.

Another photo captures the mother and son holding hands while walking down a hotel corridor. Jen is seen pointing at something while talking to his mother, as Sayuri follows his gaze, enjoying the leisurely moment. The trip was particularly meaningful due to the location: the Kahala Hotel in Hawaii, a place Sayuri had visited with her own family during her childhood.

Recalling those early years, she said, "I came to this Kahala Hotel with my family in 1989. I don't have many memories left, but I vaguely remember that the sky was beautiful, the ocean was very vast, and my grandmother's hands were warm."

She continued, expressing her emotions: "Now, 36 years later, I have returned to this place as a mother with my son. The child I was in my childhood is gone, but I am now walking through the same space as a mother to a child." The image of the child who once walked holding her grandmother's hand now walking the same path holding her own son's hand serves as a symbolic representation of the passage of time and the connection between generations.

The most moving moment of the trip came from a single remark by Jen.

While looking out at the ocean, Jen suddenly said to his mother, "Mom, you have a mom too. So you are still a child."

Sayuri confessed, "The moment I heard those words, my heart felt warmer and happier than I can explain." The child's pure observation, which reminded her that she is still someone's daughter even within her role as a mother, has evoked widespread empathy.
