Hong Yeong-gi: 'The more my husband suppressed my style, the more I wanted to dress provocatively'

Influencer and fashion/beauty entrepreneur Hong Yeong-gi has opened up about long-standing conflicts with her husband over her clothing. She confessed that tensions escalated as her husband became increasingly concerned about other men's attention, reaching a breaking point where he even tore her clothes. Hong revealed that the more he attempted to interfere, the more strongly she adhered to her own style.

While discussing fashion, Kang commented on Hong's attire, saying, "Even though you are a mother, it is so beautiful to see you being so confident," before asking about her husband's reaction.

"I am beautiful, but I think my husband would feel jealous and annoyed if other men looked at me," Kang remarked. In response, Hong confessed that she had indeed experienced significant conflict with her husband over her clothing in the past.

"At first, my husband hated it so much. Until about 4 or 5 years ago, he would pick on my clothes," Hong said. "He said he hated other men looking at me, and we actually fought about it so much that my husband once even tore my clothes."

What began as a simple difference in taste escalated into marital arguments and emotional outbursts. Hong is known for wearing outfits that highlight her physique, and since she has garnered significant public attention for her style, it is possible her husband felt even more pressured by the public gaze.

However, Hong perceived his actions as control rather than consideration.

"Because I was so angry, I wanted to dress even more provocatively," she said. "When freedom is suppressed, I want to break out even more." She explained that the more someone limits her choices, the greater her rebellious urge to break those limits becomes.

Hong said she even demanded that her husband be held to the same standard.

"So I told my husband, 'You should only wear the clothes I tell you to wear.' You wouldn't do that, right? You have your own style. I thought it was the height of hypocrisy," she said.

She drew a line against interpreting her clothing merely as a means to attract attention, stating, "I don't wear these clothes to look good to men; this is just my style."
