'I Live Alone' Bibimbap Showdown Puts Watchlist Pair Kian84 and Kim Dae-ho in the Spotlight
MBC's I Live Alone drew 5.4 percent nationwide as Kian84's frugal post-meal bibimbap moment topped the camp episode.
MBC variety program 'I Live Alone' built both comedy and a sense of community through a large-scale bonding project for its Rainbow members, while Kian84 once again proved the strength of his singular screen presence. His unpretentious daily habits supplied the broadcast's highest-rated moment, turning a simple post-meal scene into the episode's standout sequence.

The July 3 broadcast of 'I Live Alone' featured the 'First Rainbow Summer Training Camp,' bringing together 13 people in total, including regular cast members and new Rainbow members. According to Nielsen Korea's nationwide ratings, the episode recorded 5.4 percent, while its highest minute-by-minute rating climbed to 6.8 percent.
The scene that drove the top rating was not a flashy game or a fierce competition. Instead, viewers responded most strongly to Kian84 packing leftover bibimbap into a container after the meal. Although he is already known as the owner of a building worth tens of billions of won, he naturally showed a frugal attitude by refusing to waste even a single grain of food. The moment drew both empathy and affection from viewers, highlighting a practical value system that prizes saving and usefulness in daily life regardless of financial abundance.
The first program at the training camp was the 'Random Bibimbap Project,' planned by Jeon Hyun-moo. Each participant secretly prepared one ingredient, then revealed it one by one so the group could complete a single bowl of bibimbap together. The format gave the meal the feel of a team exercise and reminded the members of the meaning of cooperation.
Koo Sung-hwan brought a large ham, Park Ji-hyun and Park Kyung-hye prepared young radish kimchi, Code Kunst brought sesame oil, Seo Bum-june contributed beef, garlic scapes and red pepper paste, Bae Na-ra brought beef red pepper paste, and Minho prepared fried eggs. Joy added an unexpected visual touch with edible flowers. Lee Sun-min brought stir-fried dried radish greens with soybean paste, while Jeon Hyun-moo completed the unusual combination with Mexican taco sauce and anchovies.
Above all, attention focused on Kian84 and Kim Dae-ho, who were treated as the two people to watch. In an earlier broadcast, the pair had drawn attention for their unusual lunchboxes, but this time they reassured the members with more stable choices: Kian84 brought napa cabbage kimchi, and Kim Dae-ho prepared homemade stir-fried beef with shishito peppers. Kim Dae-ho made everyone laugh by saying, 'I got criticized a lot last time, so I started preparing properly the day before.'
After the meal, the camp moved into its full-scale bonding program. The Rainbow members were divided by draw into Jeon Hyun-moo Team, Kian84 Team and Code Kunst Team, then began competing in teamwork challenges. Jeon Hyun-moo raised the camp mood further by giving out group T-shirts he had made himself, while Kim Shin-young described them as being 'on the boundary between mockery and reality,' sending the scene into laughter.
The first event, a parachute running relay, produced an unexpected contest. Kim Shin-young drew attention after revealing the surprising detail that she had once been a track-and-field athlete, then showed explosive speed. Minho also displayed impressive athletic ability. During the race, however, it was discovered that Kian84 had not properly worn the parachute equipment, leading to a rematch. After a fierce battle, Code Kunst Team, named 'Between Strength and Ham,' claimed the final victory behind Bae Na-ra's performance.
More cooperative games followed, including 'Die If You Get Caught on Camera' and 'Carrying Water While Blindfolded.' As the games continued, the members' competitiveness and variety-show instincts worked in harmony. The distance between new members and existing members also narrowed naturally, allowing the program to build the kind of group cohesion that defines community-based variety entertainment.
At dinner, Jeon Hyun-moo raised anticipation for the next round by announcing, 'Today's real prizes are concentrated in the talent show.' The preview shown at the end of the broadcast teased the talent show, the highlight of the 'First Rainbow Summer Training Camp,' and also announced that the next episode would reveal the daily life of Girls' Generation's Yuri as she enters her third year of living in Jeju, increasing curiosity about what comes next.
The episode succeeded in going beyond a game-centered variety format by naturally showing cooperation, relationship-building and the individual lifestyles and human sides of the cast. In particular, Kian84's brief act of packing leftover bibimbap remained a symbolic scene, demonstrating that everyday sincerity can create greater empathy and laughter than elaborate setups or production. It also reaffirmed that the long-running appeal of 'I Live Alone' ultimately rests on the cast members' unvarnished daily lives and sense of reality.
