Koo Hye-sun gained 8kg after a grueling 16-hour trek in the Himalayas: 'I even ate horse feed to survive'

Ku, an actress in her 24th year since her debut, will appear on MBN's "Kim Ju-ha's Day and Night" on the 18th to share recent updates and her reflections on life.

During the broadcast, Ku revealed her unique way of dealing with malicious comments. "I read every single malicious comment without exception," she stated, adding, "I view malicious comments as a social phenomenon."

She continued, expressing a positive attitude by using criticism as an opportunity for growth: "Comments that point out things logically, like 'your pronunciation is bad,' are actually helpful. I can just work to fix those parts."

While sharing her experiences, Ku mentioned the first shocking malicious comment she received during her 24 years in the entertainment industry. She brought laughter to the set by revealing, "I received a comment calling me a 'pig' for the first time. After seeing that, I immediately stopped eating."

In particular, while sharing examples of malicious comments, Ku made the studio burst into laughter with an unexpected expression. The remark was so humorous that cast members Moon Se-yoon and Jo Jazz actually stood up and walked out, heightening anticipation for the broadcast.

Ku also shared her recent experience climbing the Himalayas. "My goal was an altitude of 4,300m, and I eventually achieved it. I continued a grueling schedule of walking 16 hours a day," she said.

Recalling that her very first climbing experience was the Himalayas, she reflected on a journey that was much harsher than expected. "At first, the leader told me, 'You just need to walk slowly for ten days, like a walking trail,' but once I got there, it wasn't just walking 16 hours a day; the schedule involved constant climbing," she said, sharing her feelings at the time. "Later on, it was so hard that I felt like getting angry."

However, what was even more surprising was the unexpected result that followed the climb. While one would generally expect weight loss after long-duration mountain trekking, Ku confessed that she actually returned having gained 8kg.

She explained, "When I went to the hospital, my weight had increased by 8kg. I simply couldn't walk if I didn't eat. Since I suffered so much, I ate thinking of it as a reward for myself."

She then brought laughter by saying, "I ate so much in the Himalayas. I even snatched horse feed, cookies, and sugar cubes meant for the horses." She candidly shared how she was unable to suppress her appetite in order to maintain physical strength in such an extreme environment.

Ku has earned the title of a "professional multi-hyphenate" by challenging various fields including film directing, music, fine arts, and academics, in addition to her acting career. Recently, she has continued to expand her limits by successfully completing her Himalayan climb.
