Ku Hye-sun reveals life-changing shift after anaphylactic shock
Actress Ku Hye-sun opens up about how a life-threatening medical emergency led her to embrace minimalism and a frugal lifestyle.
Actress Ku Hye-sun confessed that her life values changed completely after experiencing life-threatening anaphylactic shock. She shared her personal philosophy of minimalism, revealing everything from her one-year stay in a goshiwon to the reason she wore the same clothes for six years.

Appearing on the MBN talk show 'Kim Ju-ha's Day and Night,' which airs on the 18th, Ku opened up about a humble daily life that differs from public expectations. In particular, she drew attention by candidly discussing her experience living in a goshiwon and the motivation behind letting go of her possessions and greed.
"I lived in a goshiwon for a whole year," Ku said, directly refuting prejudices regarding communal facilities. She explained, "The shower room is communal, but since it's structured for one person to use at a time, it wasn't uncomfortable at all." She also noted an unexpected advantage of goshiwon life: "The best part was that cleaning could be finished in just one minute."
"At home, it felt like many things were absolutely necessary, but after tidying up to leave only what was needed to live in a goshiwon, I realized there weren't actually many items I truly needed," she said. She emphasized the 'aesthetics of emptying,' sharing how her life became much lighter through the process of reducing her belongings.
This minimalism extended to her wardrobe. Ku revealed, "I wore almost the same clothes for six years, from undergraduate to graduate school," noting that she was wearing her usual style even at the filming site that day. "If you have many clothes, you end up worrying about what to wear, but if you have just one, there's no need to worry," she said, explaining that she prepares several pieces of the same design to wear.
When host Kim Ju-ha asked, "What do your parents think about having a top actress for a daughter?", Ku displayed her characteristic wit. She drew laughter by joking, "My parents just dislike me," before adding, "My mother's wish is 'Please, just buy some new clothes,'" which caused laughter in the studio.
However, this lifestyle was born from a painful experience. Recalling the time she suffered anaphylactic shock, Ku confessed, "At that moment, I thought, 'If I die, who is going to clear away all these heavy belongings?'" She explained that after experiencing death so closely, she began to re-prioritize her life by reducing unnecessary items.
Living with her pets also served as a catalyst for change. She explained that a minimal lifestyle naturally took root because "the kids kept chewing on things in the house, so I started clearing and organizing them one by one."
Through this broadcast, Ku is expected to show a different side of her charm, revealing the frugal daily life and serious attitude toward life that exist behind her glamorous career. Her sincere confession that a brush with death led to her current philosophy is expected to leave a deep impression on viewers.
