Lee Jang-won and Bae Da-hae: 100-year-old grandfather calls parents if grandchild is late

Singer Lee Jang-won has revealed how his daily routine has changed since moving in with his 100-year-old grandfather. The heartwarming bond has drawn attention, as the grandfather's concern for his grandchild's late returns even leads him to contact the grandchild's parents.

On the 14th, a video titled 'The Not-So-Easy Life in Your 40s' was released on actor Kim Ji-seok's YouTube channel. The video captures Kim meeting his close friends Lee Jang-won and Shin Jae-pyeong to discuss life and family after entering their 40s.

While discussing their parents, Kim asked the two, "Do you still get scolded by your parents?" To his surprise, Lee replied, "I get scolded by my grandfather."

Lee's wife, actress Bae Da-hae, previously drew attention by sharing her daily life living with her great-grandfather, who recently turned 100.

When Kim asked, "Does your grandfather lose his temper?" Lee laughed, saying, "He expresses deep regret.""

He explained, "He really dislikes it when we come home late. If we don't come in before he goes to sleep, he'll say the next morning, 'Did you say you came in late? Make sure to come home early.'"

The grandfather's concern does not end there. Lee revealed, "He even calls our parents to tell them that we are out late."

Despite this, rather than viewing it as uncomfortable interference, Lee understands it as his grandfather's affection. He laughed, adding, "But he seems so energetic during those times. It's funny."

To Lee, his grandfather is more than just a family member he is currently living with. He explained that this is the third time he has lived with his grandfather.

Recalling the past, Lee said, "The first time was when I was a little kid, and the next was in my early 20s. In my 20s, I spent 20 out of 24 hours interacting with my grandfather."

However, as time has passed, Lee's perspective on the relationship has changed. He shared that upon moving in again, he told his grandfather, "Since you have taken care of me all this time, I will live my life with the intention of paying you back.""

The grandfather's worries, which felt like nagging and interference when he was young, now come across as affection and responsibility. The image of a 100-year-old grandfather worrying about his grandchild's return time and the grandchild who now wishes to return the care he once received shows a family love that transcends generations.
