Pungja: 'I won't reveal my husband' even if I marry

Broadcaster Pungja defined marriage not as an obligation, but as a 'result of certainty and trust,' expressing her intention to keep her spouse's personal information private even if she marries someday. Although she has no specific marriage plans or a current partner, she is already worrying about how her future spouse might have to endure excessive public interest simply because they are marrying her.

On the 7th, during the episode 'Fighting Fire with Fire: Fishing Village Vacation' released on her YouTube channel 'Satirical TV,' Pungja asked the production staff, who had been married for one and a half years and nine years respectively, about the benefits of married life. When the staff responded, saying things like, "It's nice to have someone at home and someone you want to contact," and "It's great to have someone who is completely on my side," Pungja listened intently.

Regarding her views on marriage, she said, "Marriage isn't an obligation in life, is it?" and added, "I believe marriage is something you do with someone for whom you have that much certainty and trust." Rather than accepting marriage as an essential stage of life, she views it as a relationship that can be chosen once sufficient mutual trust has been built.

At the same time, Pungja imagined the situation that would unfold if she were to actually get married. She predicted that private stories, from their first meeting to their dating process, would become subjects of public interest, saying, "If an article pops up saying 'Pungja is getting married,' won't people be curious about who she is marrying, what that person does, and what they look like?"

In particular, she worried about the burden her future spouse would have to bear. "It's not like I'm getting married right now, and I don't even know who it will be, but I feel unnecessarily sorry for that person," Pungja confessed. "I feel bad that they would be subject to everyone's attention just because they are marrying me." Rather than the marriage itself, she first thought about the potential invasion of privacy and excessive attention that can arise from the union between a celebrity and a non-celebrity.

Accordingly, Pungja stated, "I feel like if I do get married, I probably won't reveal my husband at all." This means that while she would announce the fact of her marriage, she would strictly separate the specific personal details, such as her spouse's face or occupation. She drew a clear line, implying that just because someone is a well-known figure, it does not mean the privacy of the person with them must automatically be disclosed.

However, she expressed her desire to announce the news of her marriage directly to her fans through her own voice, rather than through the media or third-party outlets. "If I get married later, I want to tell my fans on my YouTube channel first, rather than revealing it to reporters or through other mediums," Pungja promised, saying, "If such good news happens, I will tell you all sincerely." She added, however, that she had heard stories where marriage news is leaked first, causing her to lose even the chance to announce it herself.

Continuing the serious conversation about marriage, Pungja soon shifted the mood with her signature humor. She drew laughter by saying, "What's the point of talking about this? Forget marriage, I'm just here eating dried squid by myself." When asked about her current dating status, she drew a line, saying, "There is none at all right now. It is a lonely night." Ultimately, the discussion about marriage was not an announcement of immediate plans, but rather a disclosure of her principles for a future that may one day arrive.

After gaining fame through YouTube, Pungja expanded her field of activity into terrestrial and cable variety shows, building public recognition. She won the Newcomer Award at the 2023 MBC Entertainment Awards, and at the 2025 SBS Entertainment Awards, she expanded her presence as a broadcaster by winning the Best Chemistry Award alongside Shin Gi-ru, Lee Guk-ju, and Park Na-rae. Recently, she has also been sharing her daily life and lifestyle changes as content, such as revealing that she lost 33 kg.

Paradoxically, the more a broadcaster grows based on public interest, the more difficult the issue of protecting privacy becomes. Pungja's statement that she will not reveal her future spouse is more than a simple declaration of non-disclosure; it is closer to a choice to keep her fame and her partner's privacy as separate domains.
