Girls' Generation's Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Sooyoung debut as 'Girls' Generation-HRS'

Girls' Generation members Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Sooyoung have united as the project unit 'Girls' Generation-HRS,' declaring themselves a new generation of girl group. What began as a joke-like project in variety content has evolved into actual musical activities, drawing attention as a new challenge for the Girls' Generation members as they approach their 20th anniversary since debut.

On the 23rd, Sooyoung posted several photos on her SNS with the caption, "HOW ARE YOU DOING OUT THERE. 6th generation girl group Girls' Generation-HRS debuts today."

The photos capture Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Sooyoung performing on stage at the '2026 Car School Festival' held at Seoul Land in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi-do, on the 22nd. The three members achieved a unified stage look by wearing coordinated red, white, and blue tops paired with denim pants.

Sooyoung revealed her toned abs in a cropped top with cutouts at the chest and waist, while Hyoyeon and Yuri also emphasized their signature healthy stage image with bra tops and sleeveless tops. After the performance, they showed the intimacy of members who have worked together for a long time, taking mirror selfies with sweaty hair and natural expressions and leaning on each other for photos.

Prior to the official music release, Girls' Generation-HRS first performed the title track 'Skibidi' and the B-side 'Lowkey In Love' on stage.

'Skibidi' is characterized by genre variations that start from a house base and develop into hip-hop. By adding Arabian string sounds, the song carries a message of pioneering their own new path rather than staying within the existing girl group formulas. 'Lowkey In Love' is a retro dance pop track featuring cheerful brass and a rhythmic groove, showcasing a different musical color of the three members.

The starting point of Girls' Generation-HRS is somewhat unexpected. It originated from the fake documentary content 'Fake Kim Hyoyeon' featured on Hyoyeon's personal YouTube channel, 'Hyoyeon's Level Up Hyo's Level Up.'

In the content, Hyoyeon set up a premise to create a new team to rival Girls' Generation-TTS, the first unit of Girls' Generation, and 'Girls' Generation-HRS' was born as Yuri and Sooyoung joined. The three members gained fan support by comically portraying themselves competing for the positions of main vocal and center.

However, the setting created to induce laughter in online content has developed into an actual music project. This is significant in that it goes beyond simple fan service, serving as a way for idol members who have been active for a long time to break out of the existing group framework and freely expand their current tastes and characters.
