Gree supports mother's living expenses after family's 1.7 billion won debt crisis

Gree (real name Gim Dong-hyeon), a rapper and son of entertainer Kim GuRa, has drawn attention by revealing that he maintains a close bond with his biological mother, consistently caring for her despite a complicated family history following his parents' divorce. His heartfelt devotion to his mother, who once had to flee to Jeju Island due to massive debt, is once again in the spotlight.

On the 7th, Gree shared stories about his family while traveling with his paternal grandmother in a video uploaded to his YouTube channel 'Gree.' When naturally asked about his biological mother's current status, Gree calmly replied, "She is doing well. She lives in Jeolla-do, so I cannot see her frequently."

He added, "But I am the only one she has. I stay in touch and take care of her." This implies that although he cannot meet her often, he is not neglecting his role as a son.

Gree's remarks are particularly striking due to the history involving his biological mother.

In a YouTube video released last June while introducing a famous restaurant on Jeju Island, Gree mentioned, "Jeju Island is where my mother fled after incurring a large debt." At the time, he laughed it off, saying, "It's 90% serious and 10% a joke," but behind those words lay the economic hardships the family had to endure.

According to Gree, his mother moved to Jeju Island at that time to learn a trade and start a new life. While traveling back and forth to Jeju to visit her, he naturally became familiar with many local restaurants.

The story regarding his mother's economic situation did not end there. Gree previously revealed on Channel A's 'Dad is a Flower Middle-aged Man' that he still provides financial support to his biological mother.

At the time, he stated, "I still have to look after my biological mother, and because I love her so much, I provide financial support," adding, "It is just enough to help with her living expenses." In another broadcast, he confessed, "I provide her with living expenses, and before my maternal grandmother passed away, I even hired a caregiver for her."

Despite the difficult family history, Gree has not hidden his feelings for his mother. He even remarked, "Even if I feel frustrated, I feel relieved after helping her." This is interpreted as meaning that even if there are burdens and complex emotions caused by family, she is ultimately someone he cannot turn away from.

Kim GuRa also divorced in 2015 after issues regarding his ex-wife's debts and guarantees surfaced. The family history garnered significant public interest when it was reported that the scale of the debt Kim GuRa took on reached approximately 1.7 billion won. Kim GuRa later revealed through broadcasts that the actual final debt was even larger than the amount previously known.

Nevertheless, Gree did not sever ties with his biological mother. Rather, he has revealed on several occasions that he has been looking after his family, such as providing living expenses within his means and even caring for his maternal grandmother.

Kim GuRa later remarried a non-celebrity woman 12 years his junior and had a daughter. Gree has also accepted his stepmother and half-sibling as part of his family, continuing a different form of family relationship.

Ultimately, what draws attention in these remarks is the family relationship left behind rather than the figure of '1.7 billion won debt.' Despite passing through the ups and downs of parental divorce, economic hardship, and remarriage, Gree has not pushed his biological mother out of his life.
