Sim Soo Bong Reveals Struggle with Rare Misophonia Syndrome Despite Musical Genius
Legendary singer Sim Soo Bong opens up on MBN about her rare condition, Misophonia, and her lifelong journey as a musical prodigy.
On the 20th, singer Sim Soo Bong (71) will reveal on MBN's 'Kim Joo Ha's Day and Night' that she suffers from a rare disease.

Sim Soo Bong will share her extraordinary musical talent that began in infancy, stories involving her family, and her determination to continue her musical activities even while suffering from a rare disease that is fatal to a singer.
She stated that her family is a musical lineage that has practiced traditional Korean music for five generations, saying, "I am the last descendant of the Junggoje pansori school. Even as a newborn, I tapped out rhythms with my toes. Thanks to my mother, who recognized my musical talent, I began learning the piano at the age of 5," revealing her early gifted education.
She noted that she had been performing on stages since the age of 16, before her debut as a singer, saying, "I happened to see a woman playing the drums on TV and became obsessed with the drums, so I attended an academy. I played the drums on US 8th Army stages," showing she was a promising talent from the start. Exclamations erupted in the studio as she showcased her versatile musical talents, ranging from piano, drums, and guitar playing to composing and songwriting.
However, she has one fatal weakness as a singer: she suffers from a rare condition called Misophonia syndrome. She confessed, "It is a disease where I cannot hear sounds. In cases where there are loud or intense sounds, I collapse. Just in case, I always carry earplugs with me."
Since her debut through the 1978 MBC Campus Song Festival, Sim Soo Bong has held her place on the stage for nearly 50 years. She has left behind hit songs such as 'That Person,' 'A Million Roses,' and 'Man is a Boat, Woman is a Port.'
