'Daegun Buin' Gong Seung-yeon: "The Eldest Has to Do Well for the Siblings"
Gong Seung-yeon opens up about her anxious 7-year SM trainee days and her sisterly bond with TWICE's Jeong-yeon on tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block' preview.
Actress Gong Seung-yeon, who is receiving great love for her role as Queen Dowager Yun I-rang in MBC's Friday-Saturday drama '21st Century Daegun Buin', opens up about her past of drifting without debuting despite seven years as an idol trainee. TWICE's Jeong-yeon.

Gong Seung-yeon appeared in the preview for next week's episode of tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block', which aired on the 13th. When asked about her seven-year trainee period at SM, she said, "I was anxious and truly felt lost. I'm not sure if my mom still remembers, but she used to say she hoped the eldest would do well and pull the second and third siblings along," conveying the anxiety and sense of burden she felt at the time.
She confidently added, "I bragged to my younger sister Gong Jeong-yeon, saying I'm going on 'You Quiz.' Even TWICE hasn't been on it yet." She then joked, "I thought I'd like to hop on the train with IU and Byeon Woo-seok." Gong Jeong-yeon is Jeong-yeon of the girl group TWICE.
In the preview, Jeong-yeon sent a video letter filled with gratitude toward her older sister. Gong Seung-yeon had previously mentioned that the two bicker so often that they nearly left marks on each other's faces the night before Jeong-yeon's debut music video shoot. Perhaps because of this, she was greatly surprised by her sister's video letter.
Jeong-yeon expressed her thanks, saying, "During a time when I was struggling a bit mentally, my sister held onto me and took me to the hospital." In 2020, Jeong-yeon temporarily suspended her activities after developing Cushing's syndrome as a side effect of steroids administered during treatment for a herniated cervical disc.
