Gong Seung-yeon's '21st Century Grand Princess Consort' segments entirely edited out of 'You Quiz on the Block'

On the 21st, Gong Seung-yeon appeared on tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block,' where she shared anecdotes about her sister, TWICE's Jeongyeon, and the process of her debut after a long period as a trainee. However, all content regarding the MBC drama '21st Century Grand Princess Consort'—which recently ranked number one among recent Friday-Saturday dramas with overwhelming viewership ratings but sparked controversy over historical distortions—was edited out.

In the preview video released before the broadcast, Yoo Jae-suk introduced Gong Seung-yeon by saying, 'With 21st Century Grand Princess Consort, you have reached your prime for the first time in 15 years.' Gong Seung-yeon also teased content about the drama by saying, 'I will also board the train with IU and Byeon Woo-seok,' suggesting she would ride the wave of popularity from the two lead actors.

However, once the actual broadcast aired, the atmosphere was quite different from the preview. The mention of '21st Century Grand Princess Consort' was completely removed from Yoo Jae-seok's introductory comments, and the related subtitles that appeared in the preview were replaced with different expressions. It appears that almost all stories related to this drama were edited out entirely.

Gong Seung-yeon played the role of Queen Dowager Yoon I-rang in this drama, asserting her presence by clashing with the couple Grand Prince Yi An (Byeon Woo-seok) and Seong Hee-ju (IU). It is known that her appearance on 'You Quiz' was made possible thanks to her popularity in this work.

However, as soon as the drama ended last weekend, accusations of historical distortion and criticism poured in, causing the atmosphere to turn very cold, with IU, Byeon Woo-seok, Director Park Jun-hwa, Writer Yoo Ji-won, and the production team issuing public apologies.

As if conscious of this, the 'You Quiz' production team edited out all content related to the drama, and as a result, Gong Seung-yeon's appearance time was reduced to approximately 20 minutes. This was shorter than the guest appearances of actor Yoo Seung-mok and singer Bi in the same episode.
