Actress Kim Hyo-jin Confesses to Severe Conflict with Husband and Near-Divorce

On the 10th, a video titled 'Love is patient... The words God spoke to me again' was released on Lee Seong-mi's YouTube channel, 'Lee Sung-mi's Can't Go.'

During the appearance, Kim recalled the period when her relationship with her husband was deeply shaken in the early days of their marriage.

She confessed the difficulties of that time, saying, "Coincidentally, after my husband and I married and our first daughter was born, everything we did kept clashing and going wrong."

Her husband wanted to be a better father than anyone else, but reality did not go as planned. "My husband had a great desire to be a truly good and capable father, but because his work wasn't going well, his stress reached its peak," Kim said. "Because reality didn't match his dreams, he found it so difficult that he began to turn to alcohol."

The problem intensified once he began drinking.

Kim confessed, "When a person encounters alcohol during difficult moments, it becomes a trigger for rage, causing them to express anger abnormally. And that target of anger became none other than me."

After returning home after drinking, her husband would pour out his anger and resentment toward Kim. For her, the situation was difficult to accept.

She said, "I was struggling just as much; it was no ordinary task to earn money and then come home to raise a newborn daughter. At that time, I was doing my best in my role and thought I was doing it almost perfectly without any shortcomings."

When her husband expressed resentment and anger toward her, she said she even thought, "Is this person crazy?"

As the conflicts repeated, they eventually reached an extreme conclusion.

Kim revealed that she once decided on divorce, saying, "As these things kept happening, I reached my own conclusion that I could not live with such an irresponsible and self-centered person."

However, at the moment the relationship was heading toward an end, Kim began to look inward. She stated that during her prayers, she recalled the vows made at the time of their marriage and began to pray for her husband's recovery.

In that process, her own emotions began to change.

"I realized that the mindset of 'What did I do wrong?' that I held inside was pride, and I changed my heart," Kim said.

Rather than unconditionally justifying her husband's behavior, she began to look at why he was breaking down.

Kim explained, "I began to understand my husband, who must have been struggling and lonely by himself, and as I listened to his stories, my husband also began to change."

In particular, she said that while she previously found it burdensome when her husband talked to her, she discovered too late the loneliness hidden within his words.

"My husband is a very kind person, but he is talkative. I used to push him away every day, but it turns out my husband was hurt by that attitude of mine," Kim looked back. "While his work wasn't going well, I was the only person he could share everything with. When he felt that the one person in his life was pushing him away and ignoring him, he felt like he was being pushed to the edge of a cliff and was deeply hurt."

She continued, "It was my responsibility for not looking back at my husband," admitting that her own attitude was also a factor that worsened the relationship.

As Kim changed first, changes appeared in her husband as well.

"My husband's face has recovered," she said. "The face of a person who always frowned and only spoke negatively has regained its color and laughter."

She further revealed that his drinking gradually decreased, and eventually, her husband quit drinking altogether.

"He eventually truly quit drinking. Everything was settled within about 1 to 2 years," Kim shared.

The process through which the couple, who once considered divorce, was able to restore their relationship involved an effort to look into each other's wounds rather than simply blaming the other person's faults.

Kim's confession shows that marital conflict is often too complex to be explained by one person's unilateral fault. At the same time, it serves as a reminder that understanding a partner's anger is entirely different from justifying it. In the end, what restored the relationship was not determining who was right, but the process of finally seeing why the other person was hurting.
